No doubting his ability and he was well clear when falling in the Charlie Hall at this meeting two years ago; has only been seen three times since and wellbeing a concern after being pulled up here last Christmas.

Three wins in the 2021/2 season but found life quite tough in good races last term; has dropped to a fair mark and chance might depend on whether wind surgery can bring about a return to his best; testing ground fine.

Very useful chaser in his prime but last month's hurdling win at Fontwell (2m5f, good) came off a hugely reduced handicap mark and it's not easy to predict whether his revival will gather momentum.

Fair effort at Sandown when last seen in March and had previously taken his record at this track to 4-5 with a C&D win in January; hasn't shone on seasonal returns in recent seasons but hard to ignore.

Rather frustrating in recent campaigns, often shaping as if the step up to this trip would suit but not benefiting from it at Cheltenham in March; has won on heavy and has also dropped to a tempting mark, while trainer got off the mark for the autumn this week; possibilities if it all clicks.

The way he asserted in the Grand National Trial at Haydock (3m4f, good to soft) last February made this race look an appealing proposition, but he faded badly when it was put to the test and later lost the Haydock race due to a banned substance; this season has been very disappointing but at least he's 9lb lower than 12 months ago and his yard has been in great form.

Very useful handicapper over regulation fences on his day and a very respectable sixth in last year's Ultima (3m1f, good to soft) at this meeting; won't fail through lack of stamina but has been out of form this season and makes cross-country debut from 11lb out of the handicap.

Useful over fences, first past the post in the Grand National Trial at Haydock (disqualified due to banned substance) in February and far from disgraced in the Ultima at Cheltenham the following month; having his first hurdles outing since April 2022 here, so carries risks, but he could be dangerous off his lower mark if fully tuned up.

His last six wins have come in the months of February, March or April and he returned to form to win at Ayr (2m4f, soft) 40 days ago; runner-up in this race two years ago (soft) and won over C&D (good to soft) last February; that latest win reads well and a 4lb rise isn't harsh; possible player.

12yo who hasn't been at the top of his game on either outing this term and was tailed off at Aintree most recently; however, this is the stage of the season when he tends to come good and he's 2lb lower than when scoring at Haydock last February; has won here four times, and on various ground.

Verdict

All of these are returning from a break and a few have tended to need a run previously. Dubai Days has a live chance off his current mark while the pair at the head of the weights could yet come good again. It looked as though the trip was to blame when GLOIRE D’ATHON blew out at Market Rasen and this progressive performer could well bounce back. Course specialist No Risk Des Flos rates the main threat.[Jonathan Neesom]
