2021 Breeders’ Cup Classic Results

Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Authentic has been retired, so one thing we do know is that there will be a new name claiming the $3 million first prize – what we don’t know is who. Can one of the talented youngsters Essential Quality, Medina Spirit or Hot Rod Charlie seal another victory for the three-year-olds? Will Knicks Go add to his win in last year’s Dirt Mile by taking the biggest prize of all, or will the longer distance prove a step too far for the big-race favourite? The post time is 12.40am in the early hours of Sunday morning in the UK – be sure to visit this page to get your Breeders’ Cup Classic results.

2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic Results

In common with so many sporting events last year, the Breeders’ Cup took place in front of empty grandstands as the Covid pandemic forced spectators to stay at home. But the action on the track was as exciting as ever, with Tarnawa’s thrilling win in the Turf providing the highlight of the Breeders’ Cup 2020 results.

The Irish raider was a first Breeders’ Cup victory for internationally renowned trainer Dermot Weld and she returns to the US to defend her Turf crown at Del Mar.

Her victory completed a clean sweep of the four turf races at last year’s Breeders’ Cup Saturday for the European visitors.

Glass Slippers set the ball rolling in the Turf Sprint when scoring for Yorkshire trainer Kevin Ryan, while Newmarket’s James Fanshawe struck gold with his first ever Breeders’ Cup runner when Audarya took the Filly & Mare Turf.

Aidan O’Brien is the most successful European trainer at the Breeders’ Cup but, even by his high standards, what he achieved in the Mile last year was remarkable. His Order Of Australia provided the biggest shock among the Breeders’ Cup 2020 results when winning at 40-1 – but O’Brien also saddled the second and third home to dominate the $2 million contest.

Europe were without a runner in the $6 million Classic, which was won by Authentic to give Bob Baffert a record fourth success in the race. Authentic has been retired and the two favourites to take his crown are Knicks Go and Essential Quality, both Breeders’ Cup winners last year.

Two other names from the Breeders’ Cup 2020 results to look out for at Del Mar are Gamine and Golden Pal.

Gamine was an effortless winner of the Filly & Mare Sprint and you wouldn’t bet against her repeating the trick.

Golden Pal was impressive when taking the Juvenile Turf Sprint and will be many people’s idea of the winner in the seniors’ equivalent, the Turf Sprint.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Statistics – Winners from the past 20 Years

Two moments of history have been made in the past 20 years of Breeders’ Cup Classic results. Back in 2001, Tiznow became the first – and still the only – horse to win the race twice when following up his victory from the previous year.

In 2008, the British finally ended their long wait for a first Classic winner when Raven’s Pass triumphed for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.

The last few years have also seen a dramatic turnaround in the Breeders’ Cup Classic fortunes of leading US trainer Bob Baffert. In 2013, Baffert had yet to train a Classic winner – but in the seven years since, he has transformed himself into the most successful trainer in the big race, winning it four times.
