2016 Caulfield Cup tips – 170 horses entered for Group One highlight

A total of 170 entries were included among first acceptances for the 2016 Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), including 28 internationals.

The world’s richest 2400m handicap will be held at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday, October 15, and is worth $3.15 million in prizemoney.

Racing Victoria (RV) Executive General Manager – Racing, Greg Carpenter, said that international horses again figured prominently amongst the entries for the Caulfield Cup.
“We are delighted to receive entries across the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate from 19 international trainers representing the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, and Ireland,” Carpenter said. 
“More broadly, English St Leger winner Simple Verse, Ascot Gold Cup winner Order Of St George, French star Erupt and Sir Michael Stoute’s Exosphere are among the high profile international entries for the Caulfield Cup.”

Champion Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has nominated 12 stayers including the Lloyd Williams-owned pair Order Of St George and Bondi Beach, as well as 2016 English and Irish Derby placegetter Idaho.

2015 Caulfield Cup placegetters Trip To Paris and Our Ivanhowe are nominated, as is 2014 runner-up Rising Romance.

Victoria’s premier trainer, Darren Weir, has nominated 17 horses including Emirates Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance and former Japanese stayer Tosen Stardom.
