2019 Dublin Racing Festival Schedule

Day one’s card kicks off with a bang, as a field of promising staying hurdlers take part in the Grade One Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle. We then have a double-header of two mile chases to enjoy, with the Grade Two Dublin Chase leading perfectly into the Arkle Novices’ Chase, a race which could see Mengli Khan and Le Richebourg renew rivalries once again.

2019 Dublin Racing Festival Entries

Waiting Patiently and Top Notch have been handed entries in the feature race of the meeting, the Irish Gold Cup, but it’s unlikely either will make the trip over to Dublin. Presenting Percy may finally make his first appearance of the season in that fabled Grade One, where he could face stiff competition from the leading trio in last month’s Savills Chase, Kemboy, Monalee and Road To Respect.

Footpad opened up as the 5/4 favourite for the Dublin Chase. Willie Mullins’ Champion Chase contender has, however, been beaten by two British raiders already this season, with Nicky Richards’ Simply Ned and Harry Whittington’s Saint Calvados both pencilled in for another crack at last year’s Arkle winner.

Day 1 Tips

Supasundae cannot be discounted and I’d be surprised if Jessica Harrington’s consistent sort didn’t give a strong account of himself. He will do his very best to cling onto APPLE’S JADE’S coattails, with the favourite likely to set her own fractions under Jack Kennedy. Yet, I can’t see anyone in the field being strong enough to live with this top-quality mare.

Apple’s Jade has always had bundles of pace. Two-and-a-half-miles is clearly her optimum trip and, although she is a dual-Grade One winner over three, the transition back to two miles should come much more naturally than the step up in distance.

Day 2 Tips

It’s no surprise to see Kemboy sit atop the betting after that seven-length triumph at Christmas. I, however, still have my doubts as to whether he genuinely is a top-class stayer and Willie Mullins charge won’t be allowed to dictate the race this time around. Gigginstown will be out for revenge and they will try to put the favourite off his game, leaving the door open for ROAD TO RESPECT(5/1 Unibet) - who, for me, remains the best staying-chaser in Ireland today - to pick up the pieces and win the Unibet Irish Gold Cup.

After cruising to victory in the JNWine Champion Chase on his reappearance, much was expected of Noel Meade’s stable star in the Savills Chase. Sean Flanagan looked cool and composed under his lucky yellow cap near the rear of the field, but a series of unfortunate events followed, with Road To Respect slipping up twice as the field turned for home.

The Dublin Racing Festival

Last year saw the inaugural Dublin Racing Festival hit our screens and the meeting was an unprecedented success. Leopardstown racecourse outdid themselves once again, displaying the best in Irish music, culture and, of course, racing.

Irish National Hunt racing’s elite will once again travel to Leopardstown for two days of scintillating action between the 2nd and 3rd of February. Prize money for all seven of the Grade Ones and many of the surrounding contests have been boosted, so there’s plenty for viewers to look forward to during this year’s Dublin Racing Festival.
