American racing tips Saturday 10 August - Selections for the big races at Arlington and Saratoga

Aidan O'Brien can win another Secretariat Stakes with Never No More.

Brian Healy gives his selections for the pick of Saturday's horse racing action from the United States, including the Arlington Million.

There is some top-class horse racing action going to post across the pond in the United States, where the Arlington Million takes centre-stage on a cracking card at the Illinois racetrack that also features the Beverley D Stakes and the Secretariat Stakes.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the United States there is also Grade One action at Saratoga with the Fourstardave Handicap.

10:46 Saratoga - Fourstardave Handicap (Grade 1) (3yo+) (Inner Turf) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m
10:53 Arlington - Beverly D. Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo+ Fillies & Mares) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m1½f
11:28 Arlington - Secretariat Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo) (Turf) (3yo) 1m
12:12 Arlington - Arlington Million XXXVII Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo+) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m2f

And Brian Healy looks at all four top-class Grade One contests Stateside where he gives his selections for a cracking quartet of quality racing action.

It is interesting that Simon Crisford sends Ostilio across the pond for this, but UNI (9/4, Bet365) could prove the answer, and Chad Brown’s charge can continue to rack up the wins having struck in each of her last five outings.

The More Than Ready mare boasts winning form at this track having struck in a Listed contest last August, and she later added Grade One success to her record with a win at Del Mar when beating Daddy Is A Legend in the Matriarch Stakes back in December.

Formerly a very useful performer in France prior to heading across the pond, she made a winning return to action following seven months off the track when beating Mrs Ramona G to the punch at Belmont in June, and she can improve again on that form with the benefit of that run under her belt.

Jockey Joel Rosario is 3-3 on the mare, and the pair can combine for further success taking on the boys here.

10:53 Arlington - Beverly D. Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo+ Fillies & Mares) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m1½f

Ex-French trained SISTERCHARLIE (11/10, Bet365) is likely to take plenty of beating here despite being drawn towards the outside, and Chad Brown’s charge can extend her winning run.

The stable has won four of the last five renewals of this race, and the Myboycharlie mare arrives here having won her last four starts - all Grade Ones, including this race twelve months ago - which latterly includes a defeat of Rushing Fall at Saratoga where she won the Diana Stakes.

The Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine is likely to still have further improvement in her given she remains fairly lightly-raced and still only a five year old, and she looks very hard to oppose here as the spearhead of a three-pronged attack by Brown to win this race for a fifth straight year.

With just two defeats from seven runs thus far on American soil, she could prove a very tough nut to crack as she bids to defend her crown.

11:28 Arlington - Secretariat Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo) (Turf) (3yo) 1m

Aidan O’Brien has a decent record in this contest, and the Ballydoyle maestro saddles both Van Beethoven and NEVER NO MORE (9/2, Bet365) who comes into this race in search of a hat-trick of wins.

The No Nay Never colt was a winner at Naas on his reappearance back in March, beating Black Magic Woman, after which he ran out a half-length winner over Madhmoon at Leopardstown in April when taking the 2000 Guineas Trial.

He won readily that day, hinting at better to come, and the form of that win has been boosted by the runner-up since running a big race in the Investec Derby at Epsom where he finished a half-length second.

Although he hasn’t been seen since that Leopardstown success, his reappearance win in March shows he can go well fresh and he can find improvement stepped up to one mile; while he has shown tight turns are no issue and the track should play to his strengths.

With Team Ballydoyle having won two of the last five renewals - and four in total - they certainly know what it takes to win this big prize, and the choice of Ryan Moore he looks set to go close.

12:12 Arlington - Arlington Million XXXVII Stakes (Grade 1) (3yo+) (Turf) (3yo+) 1m2f

This could develop into a math between the Chad Brown runners of Bricks And Mortar and ROBERT BRUCE (4/1, Coral) who just edges the vote to come out on top and become only the second dual-winner of this prize.

The Fast Company entire won this race twelve months ago, beating Almanaar, and while he hasn’t been in the same form and has suffered four subsequent defeats since that victory it could be that a return to this track can rekindle some winning spirit in the five-year old.

Three of those defeats have come in Grade One company, including when finishing eighth behind Enable in the Breeders’ Cup Turf last November, and he might have needed his reappearance at Belmont in May although the softer ground possibly didn’t show him at his best.

He was last seen finishing just over one length behind reopposing stablemate Bricks And Mortar - who heads the betting for this race - at Belmont latest in the Manhattan Stakes where he possibly still lacked some sharpness after his layoff despite his earlier reappearance.

While the favourite may prove a tough nut to crack once more, the selection may be able to reverse that form from Belmont Park this time around ere with proven course and distance winning form, while his stablemate has to prove he is as effective on this much sharper track which could prove the difference.
