Sunday 7 July European horse racing tips - Picks for Sunday's feature races at Deauville and Hamburg

Deauville hosts the Group One Prix Jean Prat on Sunday

Brian Healy gives his race-by-race selections and best bets for the pick of Sunday's European horse racing action at Hamburg and Deauville.

Looking across Europe, there is some classy horse racing action going to post in Germany and France, where both countries host Group One action on their respective racecards at Hamburg and Deauville.

In Germany, the latest renewal - the 150th - of the Deutsches Derby takes centre stage at Hamburg; while at Deauville in France the Group One Prix Jean Prat headlines a racecard that also features Listed action.

1:35 Deauville - Qatar Prix Kistena (Listed Race) (3yo) (Straight Course) (Turf) (3yo) 6f
2:52 Deauville - Qatar Prix Jean Prat (Group 1) (3yo Colts & Fillies) (Straight Course) (Turf) (3yo) 7f
3:30 Deauville - Qatar Prix de la Calonne - Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage (Listed Race) (4yo+ F & M) (Straight) (4yo+) 1m
3:50 Hamburg - IDEE 150th Deutsches Derby (Group 1) (3yo Colts & Fillies) (Turf) (3yo) 1m4f

Brian Healy assesses Sunday’s feature races across the continent and pulls together a classy Lucky 15 which could bash the bookies.

Andre Fabre has live chances with both his runners in this Listed prize, but DUHAIL (3/1, Paddy Power) could prove to be the pick of the pair and the Lope De Vega gelding could take plenty of beating as he bids to maintain his perfect record.

An impressive seven lengths’ winner over Abolish on his debut at Compeigne in April, he showed he was a classy performer in the making when hardly breaking a sweat to deny Markhor next time at Longchamp, scoring by almost three lengths in a race which has thrown up a subsequent winner.

Both wins have come over seven furlongs, but he has shown enough speed to suggest he’ll be fully effective over this shorter trip, and with the potential of further improvement to come he can land a hat-trick of successes here.

A white-hot renewal of this Group One contest could go the way of Godolphin and SPACE BLUES (7/2, Bet365) is taken to get back on track having been narrowly denied behind Space Traveller at Ascot when contesting the Jersey Stakes.

Charlie Appleby steps the Dubawi colt into Group One company for the first time, having previously won a handicap at York and a Listed contest at Epsom prior to his Ascot reversal where plenty went wrong for him.

Always travelling well, he was caught behind horses and met with trouble at every turn before bursting through to lead inside the last furlong only to be caught close home by the strong-finishing winner. Despite meeting with defeat, it was a solid run by the Godolphin runner who could easily have more to offer.

The prospect of a strong pace in this contest will suit, and with the ground in his favour it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him posting a big run for all he needs a shade more stepping up to this level. He is worth chancing to take the rise in class in his stride, and he can go close.

3:30 Deauville - Qatar Prix de la Calonne - Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage (Listed Race) (4yo+ F & M) (Straight) (4yo+) 1m

There is a strong British challenge for this Listed prize, and Charlie Appleby can take the honours back to his Newmarket base with DATHANNA (7/2, William Hill) taken to land the spoils having shaped well on her reappearance at Dortmund back in May, and the Dubawi filly can prove sharper for that return.

Progressive as a three-year old, winning two of her three starts - both at Newmarket on the July Course - she took another forward step last term where she again won two of her three outings which inlcuded a win over Agrotera at Ascot last May. She may have been amiss when disappointing behind the same rival in the Sandringham on her next outing, and she wasn’t seen again until finishing fourth in that German reappearance behind Nica.

That run may well have been needed, and she has been given time to recover from those exertions; she could well progress now with the run under her belt, and she can resume her progress with a big run likely.

3:50 Hamburg - IDEE 150th Deutsches Derby (Group 1) (3yo Colts & Fillies) (Turf) (3yo) 1m4f

LACCARIO (2/1, Paddy Power) comes into this contest unbeaten this campaign, and Andreas Wohler’s charge can continue his run of wins.

The Scalo gelding was last seen winning a Group Two contest at Cologne in June, running out a near-three lengths’ winner over Django Freeman who reopposes here, and a repeat of that effort ought to be enough to see him uphold that form and add another win to his tally.

Always travelling well in that contest, he kept on strongly under hands and heels riding to score readily, and he left the impression that there was more still to come from him. He has the potential to further improve, and he has the beating of a couple of these - not least Django Freeman - from that run last time out so he ought to prove a tough nut to crack in this contest with an extra furlong unlikely to pose an issue.

He comes from a line of past German Derby and Oaks winners, and he could well uphold family traditions with a solid effort which can see him collect this Group One prize.
