ITV Racing tips Saturday 16 March - Live TV tips for Kempton and Uttoxeter

The ITV Racing team are back in action on Saturday with live racing from Kempton and Uttoxeter, including the Midlands Grand National.

Brian Healy gives his live TV selections for Saturday's ITV televised races from the cards at Kempton and Uttoxeter.

After four fantastic days’ horse racing action for the Cheltenham Festival, the ITV Racing cameras have more live racing to come for armchair punters on Saturday.

Seven televised races forms Saturday’s broadcast with action from both Kempton and Uttoxeter, where the Midlands Grand National takes centre-stage on another cracking afternoon of TV racing.

1:50 Uttoxeter - Abacus Decorators Lady Riders' Handicap Hurdle (Female Professional Jockeys/Amateur Riders' Race) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-125) 2m7½f
2:05 Kempton - Get Switched On With Matchbook Chase (A Novices' Limited Handicap) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-135) 2m
2:25 Uttoxeter - Brit Plant Direct Novices' Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 3m
2:40 Kempton - Matchbook VIP Silver Plate Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 2m5f
3:00 Uttoxeter - Marston's Pedigree Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+ 0-150) 2m4f
3:15 Kempton - Matchbook Silver Bowl Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 2m4½f
3:35 Uttoxeter - Marston's 61 Deep Midlands Grand National (An Open Handicap Chase) (Listed Race) Cl1 (5yo+)

Ed Chamberlain and the team will hot-foot it away from Cheltenham, and they will have all their usual expert tips, insights and post-race analysis on Saturday’s TV action; while Brian Healy looks over the day’s televised racing and gives his selections for every race shown live.

HOLDBACKTHERIVER (11/2, Ladbrokes) showed some fair form over hurdles, but Evan Williams’ charge has shown up well in his two runs over the larger obstacles, getting off the mark at Bangor on his second attempt.

The Presenting gelding was a heavy-ground winner over hurdles at Exeter, so these conditions won’t hold any fears and he has shown himself able to handle a stiff track.

The form of that last win looks fairly solid despite him only holding a half-length advantage at the line and he is only 2lbs higher in the weights here back over timber than when posting that success.

He has the services of the trainer’s daughter Isabel in the saddle, and her 7lbs claim could prove significant; it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him posting another solid run back over the smaller obstacles.

2:05 Kempton - Get Switched On With Matchbook Chase (A Novices' Limited Handicap) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-135) 2m

TIMOTEO (1/2, William Hill) showed some ability over hurdles, but Alan King’s charge took a forward step when successful on his chase debut at Stratford earlier in March and the Diamond Green gelding can follow up here.

Twice placed over hurdles at Bangor and March back in the spring of 2017, he was absent for more than 20 months until returning at Sandown in a Listed company back in December; he probably needed that, and he had improved with each run before running out a comfortable winner latest.

He had 13 lengths to spare over Paddys Poem, jumping well and scoring with plenty in hand; he can quickly follow up under a 7lbs penalty and he ought to be hard to beat here.

2:25 Uttoxeter - Brit Plant Direct Novices' Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 3m

CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK (4/1, Paddy Power) has already bettered his form over hurdles since switching to the larger obstacles, finishing a good third to the useful Now Mcginty at Chepstow on his first outing over fences and then getting off the mark at Molineaux at Exeter next time out.

Paul Nicholls’ charge was a three-time winner over hurdles in testing ground, and the Black Sam Bellamy gelding could have more to offer as a chaser. He has a 3lbs rise in the weights to contend with, but Lorcan Williams’ 5lbs claim offsets that burden and more.

Trip and ground are no problem, and the pair can combine to follow up that success and strike again in this contest.

2:40 Kempton - Matchbook VIP Silver Plate Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 2m5f

MAHLERVOUS (8/1, Boylesport) struck on his hurdles debut at Southwell back in December 2017, but things haven’t been plain sailing since for the Mahler gelding although he did manage to finish runner-up in two of his next three starts.

Having undergone wind surgery in the wake of his sixth behind Midnight Shadow at Aintree, he showed immediate benefit to score readily at Kelso back in January, scoring by eight lengths from Sky Khan.

He’s been raised 7lbs for that win, but the application of cheekpieces for this outing could well help deliver a further jolt of improvement, and Warren Greatrex’s charge could strike again here.

3:00 Uttoxeter - Marston's Pedigree Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+ 0-150) 2m4f

ACEY MILAN (7/1, Bet365) was very smart as a bumper performer, winning three times and finishing fourth in the Champion Bumper prior to switching to hurdles; Anthony Honeyball’s charge has taken his time to get to grips with the jumping game, but he got off the mark at Plumpton on his third outing when grinding out a narrow victor over The Flying Sofa.

The Milan gelding had looked to be struggling turning in having been headed on the run to the second last; but he rallied strongly to get back up close home and he could find another jolt of improvement in this sphere stepping back up in distance.

The form of that novices’ contest perhaps isn’t the strongest, but he switches to a handicap from a workable opening mark and every chance he can find further progress to follow up with conditions ideal.

Smart bumper performer Acey Milan won last time out and can follow up.

3:15 Kempton - Matchbook Silver Bowl Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 2m4½f

BROTHER TEDD (5/1, William Hill) is 3-4 at Kempton - albeit over hurdles - and Philip Hobbs’ charge shaped very well back from a long absence when finding only Gortroe Joe too strong at Ludlow in Feburary when beaten six lengths.

The Kayf Tara gelding was making his first start for 600 days, running better than the bare result and keeping on well despite being hampered to finish in the silver medal berth.

He has plenty of solid chase form to his name, and he has won from 1lb higher than this rating in the past, scoring at Uttoxeter over Beat That back in May 2017; he is likely to strip fitter for that reappearance and lwith the potential to progress with the outing under his belt then he could well go one better here.

3:35 Uttoxeter - Marston's 61 Deep Midlands Grand National (An Open Handicap Chase) (Listed Race) Cl1 (5yo+)

This four mile trip is going to take plenty of getting in the prevailing conditions and so MS PARFOIS (7/1, Paddy Power) makes plenty of appeal to come home in front, and the Mahler mare can get back on track.

Very smart last term, winning three times over fences which included in Listed company, Anthony Honeyball’s charge then landed three consecutive silver medals which included when narrowly touched off by Rathvinden in last season’s National Hunt Chase.

Following wind surgery in the off season, she might have needed her first run behind Sizing Tennessee in the Ladbroke Trophy Chase, and having been absent again since there is a slight concern that she might again just need the outing.

That negative aside, she has proven stamina over four miles in testing ground and she could well find a further jolt of improvement to go close off this mark.
