ITV Racing Tips – Win £60 with our banker double at Sandown or your money back

Lalor and Richard Johnson winning the Arkle Trial at Cheltenham.

Our expert takes combines his tips for the two big Grade Ones at Sandown on Saturday and shows readers a risk free way to make £60 when backing our double with Paddy Power.

Saturday’s mouth-watering card at Sandown features two prestigious Grade Ones. First, a field of talented novice chasers will battle it out in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase, before their more experienced counterparts take centre-stage in the historic Tingle Creek Chase.

Our expert has taken a look at both races and combined his selections into this banker double with Paddy Power.

I don’t think there’s any doubting that the stand-out performer by any novice chaser this season came from LALOR, as Kayley Woollacott’s stable star claimed victory in the Arkel Trial at Cheltenham. Despite going off at 11/2, last season’s top novice hurdler from Aintree put on a jumping clinic, outclassing a decent field to claim a Grade Two prize on his first start over fences.

Ground conditions will be slightly softer at the weekend than those he faced at Cheltenham, but that shouldn’t cause anyone in the field any issues. Lalor has experience running on a flat, right-handed track and Richard Johnson’s mount should have no trouble dealing with the fearsome railway fences along the back straight.

Dynamite Dollars, a seven-length second at Cheltenham, lines up in opposition and sits second in the current betting. A reproduction of that Cheltenham performance would surely see Lalor claim another comfortable victory. If he has improved between runs, we could witness another special performance in this prestigious contest.

A small, selected field will enter this year Tingle Creek, but each of the four runners has bundles of class. Saint Calvados jumped beautifully when upsetting Footpad on his reappearance at Navan. As did last year’s Henry VIII winner Sceau Royal, who kept on nicely to win the Shloer Chase on his return from injury at Cheltenham.

Un De Sceaux returns to Sandown for the first time since beating Sire De Grugy to the Tingle Creek in 2016 and ended last season with a comfortable defeat of Douvan in the Punchestown Champion Chase. While all three would be worthy Tingle Creek winners, it’s very hard to look beyond ALTIOR – undoubtedly the best horse in training and unbeaten during his career over obstacles.

Nicky Henderson only managed to get three runs into Altior last year, after injury denied him the chance to start his season here at Sandown. Workmanlike could best describe Altior’s performances at Newbury, Cheltenham and Sandown, but Henderson’s eight-year-old still claimed comfortable wins on all three occasions and the way he powered down the home straight to win the Champion Chase will live long in the memory.

After an uninterrupted summer, Henderson is sure Altior will be better than ever this season. The three-time Cheltenham Festival winners has claimed three Grade Ones around Sandown by a combined winning distance of 18 lengths. This will be the stiffest challenge he has faced on this track, but I expect Altior to pass it with flying colours.
