Brian Healy gives his live TV tips for Saturday's televised ITV Racing action from the cards at Newbury and Kelso.

The ITV Racing cameras are back in action on Saturday, and seven races will be shown live on the afternoon with the pick of the action from the meetings at Newbury and Kelso.

Shown on ITV4, Saturday’s broadcast will feature three races from Newbury with the Grade Two EBF & TBA Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle taking centre-stage; while north of the border at Kelso there is competitive handicap action with the Liz Adams Memorial Chase heading the bill at the Scottish track.

Ed Chamberlain and the team will be on hand to offer their usual expert tips, insights and post-race analysis on all of the action, and Brian Healy gives his race-by-race selections for Saturday’s TV racing.

1:50 Kelso - EBF/TBA Mares' Novices' Chase (Qualifier For The EBF/TBA Mares' Chase Series) Cl3 (5yo+) 2m5½f

Kupatana is a horse with some big potential, but her jumping can leave a bit to be desired and she has fallen or unseated her rider in three of her last six starts over the larger obstacles.

With doubts in that area, it could be worth siding with KALAHARAI QUEEN (2/1, William Hill) who has some some strong form over hurdles from last term, and Jamie Snowden’s charge has taken well to chasing.

The Kalanisi mare has finished in the frame in all four starts over fences, returning from wind surgery to strike on her last outing at Wetherby in February, beating Little Miss Poet by almost four lengths.

The application of cheekpieces seems to have helped to sharpen up her jumping, and likely to have further improvement still to come over the larger obstacles then she can follow up here.

2:05 Newbury - Insure With Be Wiser Handicap Chase Cl3 (5yo+ 0-140) 3m2f

Dual-winning hurdler CLASSIC BEN (9/2, Bet365) has shown up well in a handful of chase starts to date this term, and Stuart Edmunds’ charge got off the mark for the campaign when winning at Sandown back in February with a narrow defeat of Ami Desbois.

The Beneficial gelding only had a neck to spare at the line, but he may just have found the softer ground against him despite the win. He should be better suited by this quicker surface, and a 4lbs rise in the weights for that success doesn’t look unduly harsh.

He has further to go here than at Sandown, but he gave the impression that he might improve again for a stiffer test, and with the potential for better still over the larger obstacles then he might be worth chancing to repeat the dose.

Ciaran Gethings can steer Classic Ben (not pictured) to success at Newbury on Saturday.

2:25 Kelso - Bernhard Lighting Rig Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 2m

Winston C could be dangerous on the back of two recent successes now he goes handicappiing, but JOKE DANCER (11/2, William Hill) gets the vote to build on his reappearance at Newcastle last month where Sue Smith’s charge ran out a comfortable winner.

The Authorized gelding had been progressive last term, winning three times in testing ground, and he made a good impression on the back of eleven months off and wind surgery to strike by four lengths from Albert’s Back last time out.

He has a 5lbs rise in the weights to overcome, but he could find another jolt of improvement with that reappearance win under his belt; and with conditions ideal he ought to go close here with a repeat.

2:40 Newbury - Be Wiser Insurance Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo) 2m3f

ELYSEES (8/1, Ladbrokes) looks to have been given a fair mark ahead of this handicap debut, and Alan King’s charge may be able to take advantage having shaped well in his four runs to date over hurdles.

A useful winner on the flat, scoring on the all-weather and on turf, the Champs Elysees gelding got off the mark at the second attempt over obstacles with a win at Warwick; he subsequently followed up again next time at Ludlow with a narrow defeat of Song For Someone.

However, despite failing to win on his next start he made the smart Quel Destin pull out all the stops at Doncaster in the Summit Juvenile Hurdle, battling well and only going down by a neck at the line.

A repeat of that effort could be enough to see him get off the mark on his first outing in a handicap, and with a recent spin on the flat under his belt he should be plenty sharp enough; he can go close here.

3:00 Kelso - Liz Adam Memorial Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 3m2f

Le Reve and Blue Flight both arrive in good heart, and the former remains well treated on his best form; he isn’t getting any younger though and has had two reasonably hard races. Blue Flight meanwhile has won his last three and could now be in the handicapper’s crosshairs.

It could be worth chancing then that CALIPSO COLLONGES (6/1, William Hill) can get back on the scoresheet having built on an inauspicious chase debut to win next time up at Uttoxeter on New Years’ Day.

Olly Murphy’s Crossharbour gelding ran out a half-length winner over Aintree My Dream on that occasion, after which he returned from a short break at Ludlow to chase home Tommy Silver.

He could have better still to come over the larger obstacles after just three tries, and this further step up in trip could unlock more improvement; he can get back to winning ways here.

3:15 Newbury - EBF & TBA Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle Series Final (A Limited Handicap) (Grade 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m4½f

SHE MIGHT BITE (6/1, William Hill) has been steadily progressive over hurdles, making the frame in all completed starts, and the Scorpion mare might have gone close at Ludlow last month but for being brought down in the race won by Carrolls Milan.

Nicky Henderson’s charge was still travelling well and yet to be asked for effort when crashing out, and assuming she is none the worse for that mishap then she could bounce back here.

The form of her earlier runner-up effort behind Duarigle at Sandown is decent, and there have been several solid efforts since come out of that contest if no wins. There have been plenty of placed efforts however.

She is open to plenty of further improvement still, and while this is a strong race she finds herself in, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see her firmly in the mix with Nico de Boinville back in the saddle.

Newbury are racing on Saturday.

3:35 Kelso - Paxtons Exclusively Kverneland Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 3m2f

Paul Nicholls enjoys a decent strike-rate at Kelso with his runners, so WORTHY FARM (4/1, William Hill) is taken to win again having struck in two of his last three starts which includes at Ascot latest.

The Beneficial gelding ran out a narrow winner, beating Trixster by a half-length with daylight back to the rest; but he still looked inexperienced and idled in front so he might well have won easier than it appeared.

The handicapper has hit him with a 7lbs rise in the weights as a result, but Lorcan Williams’ can take off 5lbs of that increase, and he ought to continue to improve for racing with the potential for further progress still.

While the softer ground here is an unknown, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him getting firmly involved the finish, and he can strike again for a yard with a 37% strike-rate here with its’ runners.
