ITV Racing tips Saturday 3 August - Live TV tips for Goodwood and Newmarket

The ITV Racing team are in action on Saturday with coverage of Glorious Goodwood and Newmarket.

Brian Healy gives his race-by-race selections for Saturday's TV coverage of the meetings from Glorious Goodwood and Newmarket's July Course.

The ITV Racing cameras have been in action all week at Glorious Goodwood, and with one final day to go on Saturday the action continues live from the Sussex track with four races including the Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes and the competitive cavalry charge of the Stewards’ Cup.

In addition to racing from Goodwood, the team also heads to Newmarket’s July course for two races from Flat HQ which features the Listed Chalice Stakes on the agenda.

3:40 Goodwood - Unibet Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 6f

Ed Chamberlain and the team will be on hand as usual to offer viewers their expert tips, insights and expert analysis on all of Saturday’s televised horse racing action; and Brian Healy gives his race-by-race selections for Saturday’s ITV Racing schedule.

1:50 Goodwood - Qatar Stewards' Sprint Handicap (Consolation Race For The Stewards' Cup) Cl2 (3yo+) 6f

This Stewards' Cup consolation could provide some clues to the draw for the main event later, and a chance is taken on GABRIAL THE DEVIL (14/1, William Hill) who emerged from a spell in the doldrums when finding only Carmell Cleave too strong at Doncaster in June, and Richard Fahey’s charge duly went one better at Haydock in July with a narrow defeat of Roundhay Park from a reduced mark.

The Epaulette gelding was latterly not seen to best effect at Chester where he found things happening too quickly for him over five furlongs in soft ground, and he ought to be much happier back on a straight track and with better ground back up in trip.

Despite probably finding five furlongs too sharp last time, he wasn’t helped by meeting late trouble in running; but he ran on well without threatening the winner, and he could be worth chancing under his penalty to post a better run back up in yardage with the booking of Frankie Dettori catching the eye.

2:05 Newmarket - British Stallion Studs EBF Chalice Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f

This could go the way of SHAMBOLIC (7/2, William Hill) who can bounce back from a lacklustre outing the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot behind Star Catcher where the softer ground probably didn’t suit the Shamardal filly.

A winner of her first two starts last term, she struggled to get competitive in subsequent Group One starts at Newmarket and Saint-Cloud; but she bounced back from a break on her first start as a three-year old to find on Maqsad too good here in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes.

John Gosden’s charge subsequently filled the same spot behind Aloe Vera in the Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood, and softer ground upped in class latest possibly caught her out.

Back in Listed company and with a quicker surface for this latest outing, she is forgiven that Ascot outing and it would be no surprise to see her quickly bounce back with a better effort.

2:25 Goodwood - Qatar Summer Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 1m6f

OUTBOX (9/1, Ladbrokes) won all three starts last term, looking a very progressive sort, and Simon Crisford’s Frankel gelding can bounce back to winning ways here having met with defeat on both starts this term.

Despite losing his unbeaten record in a Listed contest in France on his reappearance, he appeared to take a backward step at Newmarket next time when finishing sixth behind King’s Advice although the race may not have been run to suit and he is probably better than he was able to show on that occasion, and he is worth another chance.

He’ll likely get a decent pace to aim at this time around, and he is 7lbs better off with that rival now.

He could still have some scope from this mark for better so he might be worth chancing to do better, and still relatively unexposed compared to a few of these, he can go close.

2:40 Newmarket - European Bloodstock News British EBF Fillies' Nursery Handicap Cl2 (2yo) 6f

ROSA DORA (15/2, William Hill) got off the mark at the second attempt when beating Love Love by a neck at Lingfield back in June, and Ralph Beckett’s charge was subsequently far from disgraced on her next outing at this venue in the Listed Empress Stakes where she finished around eight lengths’ fourth behind Summer Romance.

The Camacho filly then made the switch to handicapping, where from a mark of 81 she was denied only by a head behind Oti Ma Boati at Doncaster, run down late having looked set to collect the prize.

That was a Class 4 contest, and this is tougher stepping into a Class 2; but she has only been raised 1lb, and the yard are adept at improving its’ juvenile fillies so there’s a chance of more to come from her.

While this will demand more, she could be worth chancing to find a jolt of improvement, and no surprise to see her firmly in the mix again under title-chasing Oisin Murphy.

3:00 Goodwood - Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m6f

On paper at least, there likely won’t be a great deal again between now-familiar foes Enbihaar and DRAMATIC QUEEN (3/1, Bet365) and narrow preference is for William Haggas’ charge to edge the verdict, with the current score one win apiece between them.

The Kitten’s Joy filly had her old rival behind when scoring at York in the Bronte Cup from level weights, but John Gosden’s charge gained some revenge when levelling the score in the Group Two Lancashire Oaks where the shorter trip might have been more in her favour than the selection.

However, having met the last twice from level weights, the Haggas runner now gets 3lbs from her old adversary here, and with this longer trip likely to be more in her favour then she can edge ahead here with a return to winning ways over her rival.

3:40 Goodwood - Unibet Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 6f

FLAVIUS TITUS (11/1, Ladbrokes) is 2-3 this term, and Roger Varian’s charge could enhance his winning record for the season with his biggest win to date.

The Lethal Force gelding posted a series of good efforts last term, including a win at Doncaster in June, and following a reappearance win at Newmarket in April where he ran out a neck winner over the useful Summerghand, he wasn’t beaten far behind On The Warpath back there the following month.

He quickly bounced back however with a defeat of Louie de Palma - again at Newmarket - where he dug deep and found plenty to score by a neck.

Only 4lbs higher here, and with scope to improve still from this mark he ought to give another good account from what could prove to be a decent draw.
