ITV Racing tips Saturday 8 December - Live TV tips for Saturday's coverage of Aintree and Sandown

The ITV Racing team are in action on Saturday with live racing from Aintree and Sandown.

Brian Healy gives his live TV tips and best bets for Saturday's televised coverage of the meetings at Aintree and Sandown.

The ITV Racing cameras are back in action on Saturday with a busy afternoon of televised horse racing action taking in the pick of the day’s racing from Sandown and Aintree.

It is Tingle Creek day at the first-named venue, and the Grade One contest features the return of Champion Chase winner Altior, where he will lock horns with three rivals including Irish raider and multiple Grade One winner Un De Sceaux.

Meanwhile, at Aintree there is Grade Two action with the Many Clouds Chase, while there are two races going to post over the Grand National fences with both the Becher Chase and Grand Sefton Chase also on the racecard.

Stamina could be an issue over this trip for ULTRAGOLD (12/1, Coral), but Colin Tizzard’s charge boasts a good record over these fences and the Kapgarde gelding can post another big run if seeing out this longer trip.

The dual-Topham Chase winner has also finished runner-up in the Grand Sefton Chase over these fences, and he comes into the race fit from an outing over hurdles at Cheltenham in October where he finished fourth behind Dinons.

He has made the frame twice over three miles in his younger days, so while this longer trip is a slight concern he has shown he possesses stamina although he has yet to go this far. Nevertheless, he looked strong at the finish when making most of the running in the Topham Chase back in April in heavy ground, keeping on well after the last to see off Shanahan’s Turn by four lengths.

The handicapper has taken few chances with him, raising him 7lbs for that win, and this will demand more from the ten-year old; but with a run under his belt and having already shown an affinity for these obstacles and heavy ground then he could be worth chancing that his stamina holds up.

1:50 Sandown - randoxhealth.com Henry VIII Novices' Chase (Grade 1) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m7½f ITV4

LALOR (4/5, Coral) demolished opposition, including the reopposing Dynamite Dollars and Pingshou, when winning the November Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham last month, and Kayley Wollacott’s charge is likely to prove hard to beat with a repeat.

Having already proven himself as a very smart hurdler, the It’s Dino gelding jumped and travelled well throughout, readily brushing aside his four rivals to land the spoils, and he looks a chaser of real potential on that evidence, and there is sure to be more to come from him in this discipline.

There appears no reason why he shouldn’t confirm the form with both those rivals he had left trailing in his wake at Cheltenham last time, and likely to get a strong pace to aim at with Diakali likely to take them along, he should get a good tow into the contest; he can follow up here.

2:05 Aintree - Betway Many Clouds Chase (Grade 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 3m1f ITV4

DEFINITELY RED (8/11, William Hill) proved himself a very high-class performer last term, winning this race twelve months ago and following up in the Cotswold Chase prior to running a gallant sixth in the Gold Cup.

Brian Ellison’s charge was an early casualty in the Betway Bowl here on his final outing; but the Definite Article bounced back to winning ways on his return to action when claiming the Charlie Hall Chase from Black Corton.

He is penalised as a result of that win, meaning he has to give weight all round; but he is proven over this course and in testing ground, and likely to improve with that Wetherby run under his belt he ought to take plenty of beating with a clear round.

He was allowed to dominate when claiming this prize last term, and it could be the same scenario here where he could be allowed to set his own pace, and he can bully these rivals from the front to score again.

2:25 Sandown - Jumeirah Hotels And Resorts December Handicap Hurdle (Listed Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m ITV4

APPLE’S SHAKIRA (3/1, William Hill) was impressive when collecting a Grade Two contest at Cheltenham last term, and while things didn’t go to plan afterwards for Nicky Henderson’s charge who was beaten on both subsequent outings in Grade One company, the Saddler Maker filly could be hard to beat here dropping in class on her return.

A winner in France for Emmanuel Clayeux prior to joining the Seven Barrows trainer, she racked up three successive wins in bloodless fashion prior to having her first taste of defeat behind Farclas in the Triumph Hurdle.

Having then been beaten at Aintree where the sharper track may not have suited, she could be worth chancing on her return to action on a stiffer track and dropping into Listed company despite the burden of having to concede weight all round.

2:40 Aintree - Betway Fillies' Juvenile Hurdle (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo) 2m1f ITV4

CHICA BUENA (11/2, Ladbrokes) goes from strength to strength over hurdles, and the Thewayyouare filly can post another win here.

Keith Dalgleish’s charge was only modest on the flat, but she has proven progressive since being faced with hurdles, winning at Ballinrobe under his previous trainer, and then posting wins at Sedgefield and Musselburgh laterly where she ran out a ready winner over Golden Jeffrey.

This is a big step up in class, but she gave the impression last time that there was more to offer and she showed a good turn of foot to win well in the end having been hampered turning in.

She faces much stiffer opposition here, but she is progressive and going the right way so it would be no surprise to see her competitive again, and she can go well with conditions ideal.

3:00 Sandown - Betfair Tingle Creek Chase (Grade 1) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m7½f ITV4

A cracking renewal of this Grade One contest despite only four runners, and reigning Champion Chase winner ALTIOR (8/11, Coral) can get his season off to the perfect start and extend his winning record over fences to ten wins.

Nicky Henderson’s charge has carried all before him in the two-mile chase division, and his run in the championship race at Cheltenham came despite him arguably still being short of full fitness having not made his reappearance until Feburary when brusing aside Politologue in the Game Spirit.

The High Chaparral gelding then won well at this venue in the Celebration Chase, beating San Benedeto, scoring by an easy four lengths.

Unbeaten over obstacles, he has no issue with soft ground and he has won all three seasonal debut runs; he should prove tough to beat once more despite taking on three high-class rivals, and he can confirm his status as the best two-mile chaser around.

3:15 Aintree - Betway Grand Sefton Handicap Chase Cl2 (6yo+) 2m5f ITV4

Form over these fences is a big plus, and while he could only finish sixth in this race twelve months ago it could be worth giving another chance to CAPTAIN REDBEARD (6/1, Ladbrokes) to get back on the scoresheet.

Stuart Coltherd’s charge is no stranger to success over fences, and the Bach gelding goes particularly well in the mud; following his sixth in this race last year he went on to win an attritional Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock, and he added to his tally with a hurdles win at Ayr before chasing down The Dutchman in the Peter Marsh Chase.

He unseated here in the Grand National proper behind Tiger Roll, only getting as far as Foinavon on the first circuit; but he has shown up well in both starts this term, including going down by just under two lengths to Vintage Clouds at Haydock latest.

This rating very much demands a career-best effort, but he is likely to handle these conditions better than most and he can post a big run back over these obstacles.

3:35 Sandown - Betfair London National Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+ 0-150) 3m5f ITV4

Things didn’t go to plan last term for ROYAL VACATION (10/3, Unibet) who had previously won a Grade One as a novice, but the King’s Theatre gelding could be worth siding with having produced an excellent effort at Cheltenham on his latest return to action.

Colin Tizzard’s charge underwent wind surgery following a disappointing effort behind Wholestone in the Relkeel Hurdle, but he did little in both subsequent outings which included the Bet365 Gold Cup here in April having finished down the field in the Coral Cup.

Returning from almost seven months off, he chased home the game Rock The Kasbah in the BetVictor.com Handicap Chase, failing by just over one length but keeping on well, and this even longer trip could provide further improvement.

He is still relatively unexposed as a staying chaser, and he is only 3lbs higher here than at Cheltenham; it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him posting a big run, and he can go close here.

Royal Vacation can strike at Sandown on Saturday.
