BetVictor is top price on Triumph favourite Sir Erec – Why you must take advantage

Mark Walsh riding Sir Erec clears the last jump to win The Tattersalls Ireland Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown.

Why you must take advantage of BetVictor’s decision go top price on hot-favourite Sir Erec winning the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on Friday 15th March.

Several potential Cheltenham Festival winners laid down a marker at the recent Dublin Racing Festival. Apple’s Jade was the undoubted star of the two-day extravaganza, but the second performance of the week as to go to SIR EREC and Joseph O’Brien’s juvenile has established himself as the one to beat in this year’s Triumph Hurdle.

During his time on the flat by Joseph’s father, Aidan, Sir Erec reached an excellent rating of 102, with his best result being a good third behind Stradivarius in the Long Distance Cup on Champions’ Day at Ascot. The four-year-old was then switched to Joseph’s yard and purchased by JP McManus, ahead of what many were expecting could turn into a glittering career over jumps.

Sir Erec was surprisingly workmanlike on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown. Mark Walsh had to sit tight as his young mount clipped a couple of the hurdles and the short-priced favourite had to use up every ounce of effort to see off Willie Mullins’ Tiger Tap Tap and score a narrow victory.

O’Brien was impressed enough to throw Sir Erec into the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival, where the colt carried that tag of favouritism to post once again. This time, the result was never in doubt, as Sir Erec bolted up down the home straight to claim his maiden Grade One crown.

It was a polished, professional performance from O’Brien’s juvenile and it was clear throughout the race that Sir Erec has come on significantly between runs. The four-year-old’s jumping was electric and Walsh could even afford to ease his mount down a long way from the line and still win by six lengths.

O’Brien and his team think a lot of this talented youngster. So much so, that they’re even planning to reroute Fakir D’Oudairies – who was the favourite Triumph after winning a key trial at Cheltenham – to the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, as they’re so confident Sir Erec will do the business in the Triumph. Most bookmakers cut Sir Erec into 6/4 after Leopardstown and that price is sure to go even shorter once Fakir D’Oudairies is removed.

You better jump on BetVictor’s price of 7/4, while you still can!
