This week's horse racing fixtures - Details of every horse racing meeting over the course of the next seven days

Aintree are racing this week and the three-day Grand National meeting is the pinnacle of this week's fixtures.

Brian Healy takes a look ahead to this week's horse racing fixtures across the UK and Ireland.

The horse racing calendar this week is dominated by the Grand National Meeting at Aintree which takes centre-stage from Thursday, with the feature race of the meeting - the Grand National itself - dominating Saturday’s racecard.

Over three days, there will be several classy Grade One contests going to post with appearances by a few of the big names as well as many who contested various races throughout the course of the Cheltenham Festival.

MONDAY 1 APRIL


The week kicks off on Monday with a three-fixture programme of horse racing action which takes in jumps racing at Ludlow as well as all-weather action in the afternoon from Chelmsford; and in the evening at Newcastle on tapeta.

Chelmsford (flat, aw) - 1.30 - 5.15pm (8 races)
Ludlow (jumps) - 2.15 - 5.30pm (7 races)
Newcastle (flat, aw) - 5.45 - 8.15pm (6 races)


TUESDAY 2 APRIL


A further three UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Tuedsday with afternoon action on the flat on turf at Musselburgh; while on the all-weather there is a meeting on the Lingfield polytrack.

Completing Tuesday’s trio of race-meetings in a fixture under the floodlights at Wolverhampton on their tapeta surface.

Lingfield (flat, aw) - 2.00 - 5.00pm (7 races)
Musselburgh (flat) - 2.15 - 5.15pm (7 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 5.25 - 8.00pm (6 races)

WEDNESDAY 3 APRIL


A busy Wednesday of horse racing action across the UK and Ireland with five meetings going to post, and there is afternoon jumps racing from Market Rasen and Wincanton; while Southwell are racing on their fibresand surface.

There is also further all-weather action at Kempton in the evening, while Leopardstown in Ireland hosts a twilight fixture on the flat on turf.

Market Rasen (jumps) - 2.00 - 5.05pm (7 races)
Wincanton (jumps) - 2.10 - 5.15pm (7 races)
Southwell (flat, aw) - 2.20 - 5.25pm (7 races)
Leopardstown (flat) - 3.30 - 6.30pm (7 races)
Kempton (flat, aw) - 5.45 - 8.15pm (6 races)

THURSDAY 4 APRIL


Four meetings go to post on Thursday’s schedule of UK horse racing fixtures, and day one of the Aintree Grand National Festival dominates the day with four Grade One races on the card.

There is also further jumps racing action from Taunton, while Southwell are racing on their fibresand surface in the afternoon.

Completing Thursday’s fixture-list is an evening racecard on the all-weather at Chelmsford.

Southwell (flat, aw) - 1.55 - 5.30pm (7 races)
Taunton (jumps) - 2.05 - 5.35pm (7 races)
Chelmsford (flat, aw) - 6.00 - 8.30pm (6 races)


FRIDAY 5 APRIL


Six UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Friday, spearheaded by the second day of the Grand National fixture at Aintree where a further four Grade One races head up the racecard.

There is further jumps racing meanwhile from Sedgefield, while Leicester are racing in the afternoon on the flat. 

In the evening, there is all-weather action with racing from Wolverhampton and Dundalk on the all-weather, while Wexford hosts a twilight card over the sticks.

Leicester (flat) - 2.00 - 5.25pm (7 races)
Sedgefield (jumps) - 2.10 - 5.35pm (7 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 5.30 - 8.00pm (6 races)
Wexford (jumps) - 4.10 - 7.20pm (7 races)
Dundalk (flat, aw) - 5.40 - 8.45pm (7 races)

SATURDAY 6 APRIL


A further six UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Saturday, and the day’s action is dominated by the Grand National which spearheads the day’s racecard at Aintree where three Grade One races are also on the card at the Liverpool venue.

Elsewhere, there is jumps racing from Newcastle and Chepstow, while on the flat there are fixtures on the all-weather at Lingfield, and on turf at Leopardstown where there is Group racing action on the card in Ireland including the Ballysax Stakes and Classic trials.

Rounding off Saturday is an all-weather meeting on the Wolverhampton tapeta surface.

Aintree (jumps) - 1.45 - 6.20pm (7 races)

Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 6.00 - 8.30pm (6 races)


SUNDAY 7 APRIL


The week ends with a four-fixture schedule of horse racing fixtures which takes in jumps racing action from Ffos Las and Plumpton, as well as jumps racing from Fairyhouse where there is Grade Two action on the racecard.

Completing Sunday’s fixture list is a fixture on the flat in Ireland at Cork which features Listed action.
