Horse racing fixtures 1-7 October - Details of all this week's UK and Irish horse racing meetings

Ascot are racing this week with action on Friday and Saturday.

Brian Healy takes a look ahead at this week's scheduled horse racing fixtures going to post across the UK and Ireland.

The passing of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket which took place last week signifies that the 2018 Flat Season is entering its’ final few weeks, and attentions will soon turn to the jumps calendar.

Before the winter game gets into full swing in the coming weeks, this week plays host to more quality horse racing action under both codes, and the highlights of the next seven days include the Group One Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket, the Listed Two-Year Old Trophy at Redcar, and the Group Three duo of the Cumberland Lodge Stakes and Bengough Stakes which both go to post at Ascot; while the Grade Two PWC Champion Chase heads to post on Gowran Park’s Saturday racecard.

MONDAY 1 OCTOBER


Monday’s fixture list kicks off a brand new week of horse racing action, and five meetings go to post across the UK and Ireland where flat racing action in the afternoon takes place at both Catterick and Bath, while there is also jumps racing action from Newton Abbot and Roscommon in Ireland.

Completing Monday’s fixture list is an evening all-weather fixture which comes from Kempton on their polytrack course.

Catterick (flat) - 2.00 - 5.10pm (7 races)
Roscommon (jumps) - 2.05 - 5.50pm (8 races)
Bath (flat) - 2.10 - 6.00pm (8 races)
Newton Abbot (jumps) - 2.20 - 5.05pm (6 races)
Kempton (flat, aw) - 5.45 - 9.15pm (8 races)

Bath are racing on Monday.


TUESDAY 2 OCTOBER


A further five-fixture list of horse racing meetings goes to post on Tuesday, and the day’s afternoon flat racing action comes from the card at Ayr, while Naas in Ireland also race on the level.

There is afternoon jumps racing action from both Sedgefield and Southwell, and the day concludes with an evening all-weather meeting on the polytrack at Kempton.

WEDNESDAY 3 OCTOBER


Five more UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Wednesday’s scheduled fixture list, with afternoon flat racing from the cards at Nottingham and Salisbury, and also Cork in Ireland.

Wednesday’s sole jumps racing fixture meanwhile comes from Bangor; while in the evening there is an all-weather card on the tapeta at Newcastle.

Cork (flat) - 2.05 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Salisbury (flat) - 2.10 - 4.55pm (6 races)

Nottingham are racing on Wednesday.


THURSDAY 4 OCTOBER


Thursday sees a further five UK and Irish horse racing meetings going to post, and the day’s action on the flat comes from the all-weather with a card at Lingfield, while jumps racing takes place on the cards at Huntingdon and Warwick, as well as Clonmel in Ireland.

Completing the day’s proceedings on Thursday is an evening all-weather meeting on the polytrack at Chelmsford.

FRIDAY 5 OCTOBER


Six UK and Irish horse racing meetings take place throughout Friday, with afternoon racing on the flat from the meeting at Ascot where the Listed Noel Murless Stakes takes centre stage.

For jumps fans there is plenty of action to look forward to with cards over the sticks at Fontwell and Hexham, as well as Gowran Park in Ireland.

Completing Friday’s line-up are evening all-weather cards on tapeta at Wolverhampton, and also on the polytrack at Dundalk.

SATURDAY 6 OCTOBER


Saturday’s fixture list plays host to a six-meeting line-up which sees flat racing go to post at Ascot, Newmarket and Redcar; while over the sticks there is further racing from Fontwell, and also Gowran Park in Ireland where the first of the Irish jumps racing calendar’s big races takes place with the Grade Two PWC Champion Chase.

In the evening, there is an all-weather racecard on the Wolverhampton tapeta to round off the day’s proceedings.

Feature races on Saturday include the Group One Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket, the Listed Two-Year Old Trophy at Redcar, and the Group Three duo of the Cumberland Lodge Stakes and Bengough Stakes which both go to post at Ascot.

Three meetings round off the week’s UK and Irish horse racing action, and jumps racing action goes to post at both Uttoxeter and Kelso, while Tipperary in Ireland race both on the flat where the Group Three Concorde Stakes goes to post, where there is also Grade Three action over hurdles on the card.

Of course, much of Sunday’s attention will focus on the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe meeting at Longchamp in France. Can Enable retain her crown?
