Horse racing fixtures 14-20 May - York's Dante Festival and Newbury's Lockinge Meeting this week's highlights

York's three-day Dante Festival spearheads this week's fixture list.

Brian Healy takes a look ahead to this week's UK and Irish horse racing meetings, where York's Dante Meeting headlines the action over the next seven days.

After Chester’s May Festival meeting, there is more top-class horse racing action on the flat with the Dante Festival Meeting going to post at York, and the classy three-day meeting spearheads this week’s fixtures.

The action on the Knavesmire gets underway on Wednesday, and in addition to the Dante Stakes - where we could see a Derby winner - there is also the 

MONDAY 14 MAY 


Monday plays host to a busy schedule of horse racing fixtures as seven UK and Irish meetings go to post throughout the day and into the evening.

The afternoon flat racing action comes from Catterick on turf, and Wolverhampton on the all-weather; while Kempton race over the sticks.

In the evening there is further flat racing action from Windsor, while Towcester go over the sticks; while in Ireland there is flat racing at Tipperary, and a jumps card from Killarney.

TUESDAY 15 MAY


Six UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Tuesday, and the afternoon action on the flat comes from Beverley; while there are jumps racing meetings at both Sedgefield and Wincanton.

Moving into the evening, the flat racing action comes from Chepstow, and also Killarney in Ireland; while Southwell go over the sticks in the evening.

The opening day of the York Dante Festival takes centre stage on Wednesday, and the Knavesmire action is joined on the flat in the afternoon by Yarmouth; while Newton Abbot race over the sticks in the afternoon.

The evening’s horse racing schedule takes in flat racing from Bath, while both Perth and Punchestown are racing over jumps in the evening.

THURSDAY 17 MAY


A further six UK and Irish horse racing meetings will go to post on Thursday, headed by day two of York’s Dante Festival where the eponymously-titled Group Two contest - the Dante Stakes - heads the day’s line-up.

In addition to racing on the Knavesmire, there is further action on the flat at Salisbury, while Perth race over the sticks. 

In the evening, there is futher flat racing action from Newmarket, while Fontwell and Clonmel in Ireland fly the flag for jumps racing.

A busy seven-fixture schedule of horse racing action sees day three of York’s Dante Festival meeting, which headlined by the Group Two Yorkshire Cup; while Newmarket and Newbury also race on the level on Friday afternoon.

There is further flat racing action in the evening with meetings at Hamilton, and also Cork in Ireland; while over the sticks there is racing at Aintree, and Downpatrick in Ireland.

SATURDAY 19 MAY


Seven meetings again go to post on Saturday with afternoon action on the flat from Newbury and Newmarket, as well as Thirsk, and also Navan in Ireland; while Bangor race over the sticks.

In the evening there is further flat racing action at Doncaster, while Uttoxeter host a fixture over the sticks. 

The feature race of Saturday comes from Newbury where the Group One Lockinge Stakes goes to post.

The week closes out with a five-fixture schedule of horse racing action, and the day’s flat racing comes from Ripon, as well as Naas in Ireland where there is Listed and Group races on the card headed by the Lacken Stakes.

Meanwhile, over the sticks there are meetings at Stratford and Market Rasen, and also Limerick in Ireland.
