It is Irish Oaks weekend at the Curragh

Brian Healy takes a look ahead to this week's UK and Irish horse racing fixture list over the course of the next seven days.

A relatively quiet week of UK and Irish horse racing action lies ahead for punters with the Killarney Festival in Ireland going to post with a five-day summer spectacle.

However, the week’s feature race comes from the Curragh on Saturday where it is Irish Oaks Day, and the Irish Oaks weekend also features the likes of the Group Two Minstrel Stakes and Sapphire Stakes on a quality two-day meeting.

Meawhile, Newbury on Saturday features the Weatherbys Super Sprint, while other notable races throughout the course of the week include the Group Three Hackwood Stakes on the same card. There is also classy jumping action on Saturday with the Summer Hurdle and Summer Plate double at Market Rasen.

MONDAY 15 JULY


The week kicks off with a six-fixture schedule of UK and Irish horse racing meetings, with afternoon flat racing from Ayr and Ripon; while Downpatrick in Ireland are jumping.

In the evening meanwhile, there are further flat racing meetings on turf at Windsor, and on the all-weather at Wolverhampton; while Killarney host day one of their summer fixture with a mixed flat and jumps racing card.

TUESDAY 16 JULY


Tuesday’s UK and Irish fixture list sees five meetings going to post, with afternoon action on the flat from the meetings at Beverley and Bath.

Meanwhile, in the evening there is further flat racing action with a fixture from Nottingham, while Southwell are racing over the sticks. 

Completing Tuesday’s fixture list is the second day of the Killarney Summer Festival where another mixed flat racing and jumps card awaits punters.

WEDNESDAY 17 JULY


A busy Wednesday of UK and Irish horse racing action takes in seven meetings with afternoon flat racing from the meetings at Catterick and Lingfield, and also jumps racing from Uttoxeter.

Meanwhile, in the evening there is further flat racing action from the meetings at Yarmouth on turf, and also Wolverhampton on the all-weather; while in Ireland day three of the Killarney Summer Festival sees an all-flat racing card on turf after two days of mixed racing, and there is Listed action on the card with the Cairn Rouge Stakes the feature of the evening.

Completing the Wednesday fixture list is a further flat racing card at Fairyhouse.

A further seven UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Thursday with afternoon action coming on the flat from the meetings at Chepstow, Leicester and Hamilton; while day four of the Killarney Summer Festival sees an all-jumps racecard in the afternoon.

In the evening, there is further flat racing from Epsom, while Leopardstown in Ireland also race on the level where the Group Three Meld Stakes takes centre-stage.

Completing the Thursday line-up is a meeting from Ffos Las over the sticks.

Eight meetings go to post on Friday across the UK and Ireland, and the day’s flat racing comes from the fixtures at Nottingham, Haydock and Newbury where there is Listed action, as well as from Killarney in Ireland as the Summer Festival meeting draws to its’ conclusion.

In the evening meanwhile there is further action on the flat from the meetings at Hamilton where there is Listed action, and also from Pontefract, and the July Course at Newmarket.

Completing Friday’s fixture list is a jumps racing card in Ireland at Kilbeggan.

SATURDAY 20 JULY


A bumper Saturday of UK and Irish horse racing meetings sees nine fixtures going to post around the country, and the afternoon action on the flat comes from the cards at Ripon, Newbury and Newmarket’s July Course.

The Group Three Hackwood Stakes joins the feature Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes on a quality card at the Berkshire venue; while the Listed Aphrodite Stakes is the feature race of the day on the July Course.

There is also classy action going to post in Ireland on Saturday afternoon at the Curragh where it is Irish Oaks Day at the premier Irish track where the racecard also features the Group Two Minstrel Stakes.

Saturday’s afternoon jumps racing action comes from Cartmel, and also Market Rasen where the Listed duo of the Summer Plate Handicap Chase and Summer Handicap Hurdle both feature. 

Meanwhile, the evening action on Saturday comes courtesy of the cards at Doncaster and Haydock.

There is also classy action going to post in Ireland on Sunday afternoon with the Group Two pairing of the Sapphire Stakes and the Kilboy Estate Stakes both on the card at the Curragh; while Tipperary goes over the sticks.
