Royal Ascot spearheads this week's fixture list of UK and Irish horse racing meetings.

Brian Healy takes a look ahead at all of this week's scheduled UK and Irish horse racing meetings.

It is Royal Ascot week this week, and the top class festival of flat racing action kicks off on Tuesday for the first of five days’ racing which features a number of Group One contests as well as other Pattern races and competitive handicaps for a feast of racing that can’t be missed.

Highlights of the week include three Group One races on day one, with the Queen Anne Stakes joining the St James’s Palace Stakes and the King’s Stand Stakes; while day two features the Group One Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

The Ascot Gold Cup meanwhile is the feature race of Ladies’ Day on day three; while the Group One Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes spearhead the day four racecard.

Not to be outdone on Saturday, the Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes heads up the final day racecard at Royal Ascot, and is joined by the ultra-competitive Wokingham Handicap on a cracking finale fixture.

MONDAY 17 JUNE


The week kicks off with a five-fixture schedule of horse racing action which takes in afternoon action on the flat from the cards at Carlisle and Catterick; while in the evening there is further flat racing action from the cards at Windsor and Nottingham.

Monday’s jumps racing action meanwhile comes courtesy of Kilbeggan in Ireland who are racing over the sticks.

TUESDAY 18 JUNE


The opening day of the 2019 Royal Ascot Festival spearheads Tuesday’s fixture list of horse racing action, and day one features three Group Ones with the opening Queen Anne Stakes joined on the roster by both the King’s Stand Stakes and the St. James’s Palace Stakes.

There is further flat racing action in the afternoon from Thirsk, while Stratford race over jumps.

In the evening, both Beverley and Brighton go to post on the level, while at Sligo in Ireland there is further racing on the flat,

WEDNESDAY 19 JUNE


A further six UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Wednesday, and Royal Ascot again dominates with the second day of top class flat racing action which features the Group One Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, while a trio of Group Two contests provide classy support to the day’s main event.

Elsewhere, there is further action on the flat from Hamilton, while Uttoxeter are racing over the sticks in the afternoon.

In the evening, there is flat racing action on turf from the meeting at Ripon, while Chelmsford are racing on their all-weather track. There is also jumps racing in Ireland with a fixture from Wexford.

THURSDAY 20 JUNE


A further six UK and Irish horse racing fixtures go to post on Thursday, and the day’s feature event again comes from Royal Ascot where it is Ladies’ Day. The Group One Ascot Gold Cup is the main race of the afternoon, where John Gosden’s Stradivarius will bid for back-to-back wins.

The Ribblesdale Stakes and Norfolk Stakes offer classy Group Two support to the feature race of the day, while competitive handicap action also takes place.

Elsewhere, there are further meetings on the flat at Ripon on turf, and from Chelmsford on polytrack; while in the evening there is further flat racing action on the all-weather from Lingfield, as well as on turf at Leopardstown.

Completing the Thursday fixture list is a jumps racing card from Ffos Las.

A busy schedule of eight UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Friday, headed by the fourth day of racing at Royal Ascot where the Group One Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes are both on the agenda.

Meanwhile, there is flat racing action elsewhere from the card at Redcar, while Market Rasen goes over jumps in the afternoon.

In the evening, there is further flat racing action from Newmarket’s July course as well as from Goodwood and Ayr; while in Ireland there are fixtures going to post on the flat from Limerick, whilst Down Royal goes jumping.

The final day of the 2019 Royal Ascot meeting dominates Saturday’s scheduled fixture list of UK and Irish horse racing meetings, where eight UK and Irish meetings in all will go to post.

The Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes is joined on Saturday’s Royal Ascot racecard by the ultra-competitive Wokingham Handicap as the curtain falls on another spectacular Royal Meeting; while elsewhere there is further flat racing action from the meetings at Redcar, Newmarket on the July Course, and also Ayr where there is Listed action on the card in the afternoon.

Down Royal in Ireland are also racing on the flat on Saturday, where the Ulster Derby is the big race of the day.

Saturday’s jumps racing action meanwhile comes from Perth, while completing the Saturday fixture list meanwhile are evening race-meetings on the flat at both Haydock and Lingfield who race on their turf track.

After the highs of the week, Sunday’s fixture list is much more sedate with just four UK and Irish horse racing meetings going to post where the day’s flat racing action comes from Pontefract where there is a Listed contest on the card, as well as from Tipperary in Ireland.

Over the sticks meanwhile there are meetings at both Worcester and Hexham.
