The Flat season returns on Saturday with its customary Doncaster opening day fixture.

Cheltenham is very much in the rear-view mirror now, but it won’t be long until the next big jumps racing festival comes around with the Aintree Grand National meeting in a couple of weeks’ time.

Between now and then however, the Flat racing season on turf gets underway this week with the traditional opening day highlight of the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster, which also features the Spring Mile and the Brocklesby Stakes.

Meanwhile, there is Listed action on the all-weather on Saturday at Kempton with the Magnolia Stakes; while Fairyhouse’s Sunday racecard features a trio of Grade Two contests.

MONDAY 27 MARCH


Monday’s schedule of horse racing action takes in just three meetings across the UK, and the day’s fixture list sees racing from Plumpton and Market Rasen over the sticks as well as on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

Market Rasen (jumps) – 1.40 – 5.10pm (8 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) – 1.50 – 5.20pm (8 races)
Plumpton (jumps) – 2.00 – 5.00pm (7 races)


Plumpton is one of three fixtures on Monday.

TUESDAY 28 MARCH


Tuesday’s fixture list, like Monday is relatively low-key with only three meetings going to post.

The day’s fixtures take in jumps racing action from Hexham and Southwell; while there is further all-weather action on the tapeta at Wolverhampton.

Hexham (jumps) – 2.00 – 4.30pm (6 races)
Southwell (jumps) – 2.10 – 5.10pm (7 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) – 2.20 – 4.50pm (7 races)

WEDNESDAY 29 MARCH


Four meeting are scheduled for Wednesday, and the day’s sole jumps racing card comes from Sedgefield; while on the all-weather there are afternoon cards at Southwell on the fibresand, and Lingfield on polytrack.

Meanwhile, in the evening there is further all-weather action at Kempton who race on their polytrack surface.

Southwell (flat, aw) – 2.00 – 4.35pm (6 races)
Sedgefield (jumps) – 2.10 – 5.20pm (7 races)
Lingfield (flat, aw) – 2.20 – 5.25pm (7 races)
Kempton (flat, aw) – 5.55 – 8.25pm (6 races)


Sedgefield are racing on Wednesday.

THURSDAY 30 MARCH


Thursday’s fixture list takes in five meetings across the UK and Ireland, with jumps racing fixtures from Warwick and Taunton, as well as Limerick in Ireland.

On the all-weather there is an afternoon meeting on the tapeta at Wolverhampton, while Chelmsford’s polytrack surface takes in an evening fixture.

Taunton (jumps) – 2.00 – 4.45pm (6 races)
Wolverhamton (flat, aw) – 2.10 – 5.25pm (7 races)
Warwick (jumps) – 2.20 – 5.10pm (6 races)
Chelmsford (flat, aw) – 5.45 – 8.45pm (7 races)

FRIDAY 31 MARCH


Five meetings will go to post on Friday, with jumps racing taking place at both Fontwell and Wetherby; while Lingfield’s polytrack surface takes in an all-weather card in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, in the evening there is a fixture on the Newcastle tapeta; while Dundalk’s polytrack surface also takes in an evening card.

Fontwell (jumps) – 2.10 – 5.10pm (7 races)
Wetherby (jumps) – 2.20 – 5.20pm (7 races)
Newcastle (flat, aw) – 5.45 – 8.45pm (7 races)
Dundalk (flat, aw) – 6.00 – 9.00pm (7 races)

SATURDAY 1 APRIL


Saturday’s horse racing fixture list takes in six meetings across the UK and Ireland, and the return of the Flat season on turf dominates the day’s proceeding with the competitive Lincoln Handicap the feature race of the curtain-raiser to the new Flat season at Doncaster which also includes the Spring Mile and the Brocklesby Stakes.

Meanwhile, there are jumps racing fixtures at Uttoxeter and Stratford, as well as Navan in Ireland; while Kempton’s all-weather track also hosts an afternoon card.

The day’s evening racing action comes from Chelmsford, where there is a card going to post on their polytrack surface.

Kempton (flat, aw) – 1.30 – 5.00pm (7 races)
Doncaster (flat) – 1.50 – 5.20pm (7 races)
Uttoxeter (jumps) – 1.55 – 5.25pm (7 races)
Stratford (jumps) – 2.10 – 5.35pm (7 races)
Navan (jumps) – 2.15 – 5.40pm (7 races)
Chelmsford (flat, aw) – 5.45 – 8.45pm (7 races)


The 2017 Flat racing season kicks off at Doncaster on Saturday.


SUNDAY 2 APRIL


The week rounds off with a four-fixture schedule which takes in jumps racing from Ascot, and the second day of the Doncaster Lincoln meeting on the flat.

Elsewhere, in Ireland there are fixtures over the sticks at Fairyhouse, where a trio of Grade Two contests head up a good card in Ireland; while on the flat there is also a card at Cork.
