Horse racing fixtures this week 29 July - 4 August - Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Festival await punters this week

Brian Healy looks at the week ahead in the horse racing world and details this week's UK and Irish racemeetings which includes both the Galway Festival and Glorious Goodwood.


Two of the big summer festivals share top billing this week with both the Galway Festival and Glorious Goodwood Festival taking place over the course of the next seven days.

Getting underway on Monday for the first of seven days' racing at Ballybrit, there is plenty of competitive flat and jumps racing action going to post with features including the Galway Hurdle and the Galway Plate, as well as the BMW Mile.

Meanwhile, Glorious Goodwood kicks off on Tuesday for the first of five days’ racing at the Sussex track where feature races include the Goodwood Cup, Sussex Stakes, and the typically competitive Stewards’ Cup all on the agenda throughout the week.

MONDAY 29 JULY


Five UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Monday, and the afternoon flat racing action comes from the card at Ayr, while Newton Abbot race over the sticks.

In the evening meanwhile, Windsor race on the flat as usual alongside Ffos Las who are also racing on the level; while Galway in Ireland host a mixed flat and jumps racing card as the Galway Festival gets underway.

TUESDAY 30 JULY


Six meetings head to post on Tuesday across the UK and Ireland, with the opening day of Glorious Goodwood headed up by the Group One Goodwood Cup. There is also classy support in the shape of the Group Two duo of the Lennox Stakes and the Vintage Stakes.

Elswehere, Yarmouth and Beverley are both also racing on the flat in the afternoon.

In the evening, there is jumps racing from both Worcester and Perth, as well as from day two of Galway where there is a mixed flat and jumps racing card featuring the BMW Mile Handicap.

WEDNESDAY 31 JULY


Day two of Glorious Goodwood dominates Wednesday’s afternoon fixture list of horse racing action where the Group One Sussex Stakes is the main event of the day at the Sussex track.

Also racing on the flat on Wednesday is Redcar, while Perth stage a fixture over the sticks in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s evening action comes on the level from the meetings at Sandown and Leicester; while day three of Galway sees another mixed flat and jumps racing card where the competitive Galway Plate is the feature race of the evening at Ballybrit.

August kicks off with day three of the Glorious Goodwood Festival featuring the Group One Nassau Stakes, while Nottingham are also racing on the level on Thursday.

There is also afternoon racing action over the sticks from Stratford, as well as from the fourth day of the Galway Festival where another mixed flat and jumps racing card features the Galway Hurdle as well as Grade Three chase action and Listed action on the flat.

Meanwhile, in the evening here is flat racing from both Ffos Las and Epsom.

FRIDAY 2 AUGUST


Seven UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Friday, and day four of the Glorious Goodwood Festival is headed by the Group Two King George Qatar Stakes which spearheads a card also featuring a trio of Group Three races.

Elsewehere in the afternoon, there is all-weather action on the flat from Wolverhampton, while Bangor are racing over the sticks.

In the evening meanwhile, the Galway Festival enters its’ fifth day with another mixed flat and jumps racing card featuring the Guinness Handicap.

In addition, Bath, Musselburgh and Newmarket are also all racing on the level on Friday evening.

A busy Saturday of horse racing action is spearheaded by the final day of the Glorious Goodwood Festival, where the Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes joins the ultra-competitive Stewards’ Cup Handicap as the feature races of the afternoon.

Elsewhere meanwhile, there is afternoon all-weather action on the flat from Chelmsford, as well as further flat meetings on turf from Thirsk, Doncaster and Newmarket on the July Course.

The penultimate day of the Galway Festival also goes to post on Saturday afternoon, and another mixed flat and jumps racing card awaits punters at Ballybrit.

Meanwhile, in the evening there are flat racing fixtures from both Lingfield and Hamilton.

The final day of the Galway Festival headlines Sunday’s fixture list of just three UK and Irish horse racing meetings, and another mixed flat and jumps racing card is joined on the roster for Sunday by a flat meeting at Chester where there is Listed action, as well as a fixture over the sticks at Market Rasen.
