The Glorious Goodwood Festival dominates this week's fixture list.

Brian Healy previews this week's UK and Irish horse racing fixtures which includes the week-long Galway Festival, and the Glorious Goodwood Festival.


Over the course of this week there is plenty for horse racing fans to look forward to, with two premier Festivals going to post throughout the week.

The Galway Festival spearheads the week’s Irish horse racing action, with the Galway Plate and Galway Hurdle both featuring alongside some classy handicap action at the week-long Festival; while from Tuesday - Saturday the world-famous Glorious Goodwood Festival heads to post, boasting some top-class action across its’ five-day schedule.

MONDAY 30 JULY


A busy week of horse racing action kicks off with a six-fixture line-up of meetings which sees afternoon flat racing action from the cards at Ayr on turf, and Lingfield on the all-weather; while afternoon jumps racing action also goes to post at Newton Abbot.

In the evening there is the usual turf fixture on the flat at Windsor, while Wolverhampton race on their all-weather track. And completing the Monday fixture list, day one of the Galway Festival also gets underway with a mixed flat and jumps racing card.

Newton Abbot (jumps) - 1.40 - 4.40pm (7 races)

Windsor (flat) - 5.35 - 8.20pm (6 races)

Windsor host their usual Monday fixture.


TUESDAY 31 JULY


Day one of the Glorious Goodwood Festival dominates Tuesday’s six fixture line-up of horse racing action, and the Group One Goodwood Cup takes centre stage on the Sussex Downs, where a top-class racecard also includes Group Two action with the Lennox Stakes and Vintage Stakes both also going to post.

Meanwhile, there is further action on the flat on Sunday afternoon with fixtures at Yarmouth and Beverley.

In the evening, another mixed flat and jumps racing card goes to post for day two of the Galway Festival; while Worcester and Perth race over the sticks at home.

WEDNESDAY 1 AUGUST


Wednesday takes in a further six UK and Irish horse racing meetings with day two of the Glorious Goodwood Festival taking centre stage, and the Group One Sussex Stakes heads the action.

Elsewhere, there is further flat racing action from Redcar, while Perth races over the sticks on Tuesday.

In the evening, there is more action on the level with fixtures at Leicester and Sandown, while the Galway Festival enters a third day with more mixed flat and jumps racing, headed by the Galway Plate.

THURSDAY 2 AUGUST


Six more UK and Irish horse racing meetings will go to post on Thursday’s fixture list, with day three of Glorious Goodwood headlined by the Group One Nassau Stakes; whilst both the Lillie Langtry Stakes and Richmond Stakes offer classy Group Two support to the feature.

Elsewhere on the afternoon, Nottingham races on the flat, whilst Stratford go over the sticks. The fourth day of the Galway Festival also gets underway in the afternoon, where the Galway Hurdle headlines a classy card which also features Grade Three and Listed action on another mixed flat and jumps racecard.

In the evening, there is more flat racing action with meetings at Ffos Las and Epsom to round off the day.

FRIDAY 3 AUGUST


Seven UK and Irish horse racing meetings will go to post throughout Friday, with the fourth day of Glorious Goodwood again heading up the day’s fixtures with the Group Two King George Qatar Stakes heading Friday’s action on the Sussex Downs course.

Elsewhere, Thirsk also race on the flat in the afternoon, while Bangor race over the sticks.

In the evening, there is further flat racing action from Musselburgh, and also Newmarket on the July Course; while Wolverhampton hosts an evening all-weather card.

The Galway Festival meanwhile continues into a fifth day, where the Guinness Handicap is the feature of the evening action in Ireland.

SATURDAY 4 AUGUST


A busy Saturday of horse racing action takes in eight UK and Irish fixtures, with Glorious Goodwood again heading up the days’s meetings as the top-class fixtures enters its’ fifth and final day of action where the competitive Stewards Cup Handicap is the feature race of the day at the Sussex track.

There is also afternoon action elsewhere on the flat with meetings at Thirsk, Doncaster and Newmarket on turf, and also Chelmsford on the all-weather all going to post.

The penultimate day of the Galway Festival also goes to post on Saturday with another mixed flat and jumps racing card in the afternoon; while in the evening there is flat racing from both Lingfield and Hamilton.

A cracking week of horse racing action draws to a close on Sunday with a three-fixture line-up of fixtures which sees action on the flat from Chester, while Market Rasen races over the sticks.

Meanwhile, the final day of the Galway Festival goes to post with a closing mixed flat and jumps racing fixture, headed by the Anonoora Handicap.
