Brian Healy looks ahead to the week's UK and Irish horse racing meeting and details every fixture going to post over the next seven days.

A new week of horse racing action gets underway, and New Years’ Day sees some classy racing going to post at Cheltenham with the Grade Two pairing of the Dipper Novices’ Chase and the Relkeel Hurdle both on the agenda on Tuesday.

Elsewhere during the week there is the Grade One Tolworth Hurdle going to post at Sandown, while the Grade One Lawlor Of Naas Novices' Hurdle spearheads Sunday's racecard at Naas. The latest of the regional National contests goes to post at Plumpton on Sunday also, with the latest renewal of the Sussex National.

MONDAY 31 DECEMBER


The week kicks off with a four fixture line-up on horse racing meetings which takes in jumps racing from the cards at Warwick, Uttoxeter and Punchestown in Ireland.

Meanwhile, on the all-weather there is a fixture at Lingfield on their polytrack surface.

Lingfield (flat, aw) - 11.40 - 3.25pm (8 races)
Punchestown (jumps) - 12.15 - 3.30pm (7 races)
Warwick (jumps) - 12.25 - 3.35pm (7 races)
Uttoxeter (jumps) - 12.35 - 3.45pm (7 races)

Punchestown are racing on Monday as four UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post.


TUESDAY 1 JANUARY


A busy New Year’s Day schedule of horse racing meetings takes in jumps racing action from Cheltenham where there are two Grade Two contests going to post with both the Dipper Novices’ Chase and the Relkeel Hurdle taking place on the Prestbury Park racecard.

Elsewhere, Musselburgh are also racing over the sticks alongside Catterick, Exeter and Fakenham, as well as Tramore and Punchestown in Ireland.

Completing the New Years’ Day line-up is a fixture on the all-weather at Southwell.

Cheltenham (jumps) - 12.15 - 3.50pm (7 races)
Fairyhouse (jumps) - 12.20 - 3.45pm (7 races)
Catterick (jumps) - 12.25 - 3.20pm (6 races)
Musselburgh (jumps) - 12.30 - 3.25pm (6 races)
Southwell (flat, aw) - 12.35 - 3.30pm (6 races)

WEDNESDAY 2 JANUARY


Four meetings go to post on Wednesday with afternoon jumps racing action from teh cards at Ayr and Hereford, while Wolverhampton also races in the afternoon on their all-weather surface.

Completing Wednesday’s fixture list is a twilight fixture under the floodlights at Newcastle on their all-weather tapeta surface.

Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 12.40 - 3.20pm (6 races)
Hereford (jumps) - 12.50 - 3.30pm (6 races)
Newcastle (flat, aw) - 3.35 - 7.15pm (8 races)

THURSDAY 3 JANUARY


Three meetings go to post on Thursday’s fixture list, with jumps racing from Ludlow and all-weather action on the fibresand at Southwell.

Meanwhile, Chelmsford host a twilight fixture on their polytrack surface under the floodlights.

Ludlow (jumps) - 12.45 - 3.30pm (6 races)
Southwell (flat, aw) - 12.55 - 3.45pm (6 races)
Chelmsford (flat, aw) - 4.10 - 7.55pm (8 races)

Ludlow are racing on Thursday.


FRIDAY 4 JANUARY


Friday sees five UK and Irish horse racing meetings taking place, and the afternoon action over the sticks comes from the meetings at Wetherby and Lingfield, while on the all-weather in the afternoon there is a fixture at Lingfield on their polytrack surface.

Elsewhere in the evening, Wolverhampton race on their tapeta surface under the floodlights; while Dundalk in Ireland are also racing in the evening on polytrack.

SATURDAY 5 JANUARY


Six UK and Irish horse racing meetings will go to post throughout Saturday, and the day’s jumps racing action comes from the cards at Newcastle, Sandown and Wincanton; while Cork in Ireland are also racing over the sticks.

The Grade One Tolworth Hurdle dominates the card at Sandown on Saturday which also features the final of the 2018 Veterans’ Chase series. There is also Listed action on the card for what promises to be a cracking afternoon at the Esher track.

Elsewhere on Saturday there is all-weather action going to post in the afternoon at Lingfield, while Kempton race in the evening under the floodlights.

SUNDAY 6 JANUARY


The week ends with a three-fixture line-up of horse racing fixtures which takes in afternoon jumpis racing from Plumpton where the Sussex National takes centre-stage; while in Ireland there is a fixture from Naas where the Grade One Lawlor Of Naas Novice Hurdle goes to post.

Completing Sunday’s trio of horse racing fixtures is an afternoon all-weather racecard at Newcastle.
