Top-class racing goes to post at Newmarket this week.

Brian Healy looks ahead to this week's UK and Irish horse racing meetings where there is plenty for punters to look forward to on the flat and over the sticks.

After another thrilling week of horse racing action across the UK and Ireland, there is plenty more classy action to look forward to over the course of the next seven days with Newmarket racing over two days this weekend where there is Group One action on both Friday and Saturday with the Bet 365 Fillies' Mile, and also the Dewhurst Stakes.

It is also the start of the new jumps season at Chepstow, with the Grade Two Persian War Hurdle going to post on Friday, while the Grade Three Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle spearheads Saturday's action at the Welsh venue. 

Meanwhile, in Ireland it is Irish Cesarewitch Day at Limerick on Saturday, while 24 hours later the Munster National goes to post at the same venue.

MONDAY 7 OCTOBER


Five UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Monday where afternoon flat racing action comes from the cards at Pontefract and Windsor; while over the sticks there are fixtures at Stratford, and also from Tipperary in Ireland.

Meanwhile, completing Monday’s line-up is an all-weather fixture on the tapeta at Newcastle.

TUESDAY 8 OCTOBER


Five meetings again go to post on Tuesday with afternoon action on the flat from the meetings at Leicester, Brighton and Catterick; while over the sticks there is a fixture in Ireland at Galway.

Completing the Tuesday line-up is an all-weather fixture on the polytrack at Chelmsford.

Six meetings will head to post throughout Wednesday, and the afternoon action on the flat comes from the meetings at Nottingham and Navan in Ireland; while over the sticks there is racing on the agenda at both Ludlow and Wincanton.

Completing Wednesday’s fixture list are a brace of all-weather fixtures in the evening with cards on the polytrack at Kempton, and on tapeta at Newcastle.

Thursday sees six more UK and Irish horse racing fixtures going to post, and the day’s flat racing action comes from the meetings at Ayr, and also Thurles in Ireland. Meanwhile Worcester and Exeter take care of the afternoon jumps racing.

In the evening there is all-weather action on fibresand at Southwell, and on polytrack at Kempton.

FRIDAY 11 OCTOBER


Another six UK and Irish horse racing meetings go to post on Friday, and the afternoon flat racing action comes from the meetings at York, and also Newmarket where there is Group One action on the card with the Bet365 Fillies’ Mile taking centre stage at Flat HQ.

Elsewhere on Friday, the new jumps season in the UK officially gets underway with the start of three days’ competitive action over the sticks at Chepstow where the Grade Two Persian War Hurdle is the feature race of the day; while Downpatrick in Ireland are also racing over obstacles.

And on the all-weather in the evening there are meetings at Newcastle on tapeta, and on polytrack in Ireland at Dundalk.

SATURDAY 12 OCTOBER


Seven UK and Irish horse racing meetings head to post throughout Saturday, with afternoon action on the level from the cards at York and Newmarket where the Group One Dewhurst Stakes takes centre stage of the afternoon at Flat HQ. 

There is also flat racing in Ireland with a fixture at Limerick in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, over the sticks there are meetings at Hexham and also Chepstow where the Grade Three Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle is the feature of the day. There is also jumps racing at Fairyhouse in Ireland 

Wolverhampton’s fixture on their tapeta surface on Saturday night completes the Saturday line-up.

The week ends with a four-fixture line-up of UK and Irish horse racing meetings, with afternoon flat racing from Goodwood as well as from the Curragh in Ireland where it is Irish Cesarewitch day.

Meanwhile, over the sticks there are further meetings from Newton Abbot, and also Limerick in Ireland where the Munster National is the feature.
