Horse racing fixtures 8-14 October - Details of every UK and Irish racemeeting over the next seven days

Brian Healy takes a day-by-day look at every UK and Irish horse racing meeting scheduled over the next seven days.


The 2018 Flat Season is inching ever closer to its’ finale, and a new week of horse racing action kicks off on Monday with an eye towards some top-class horse racing action later in the week.

This week’s feature events include the Group One Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday where the famous Cesarewitch also goes to post on a quality card at Flat HQ. The new winter Jumps season also gets underway with a two-day fixture at Chepstow, featuring the Grade Three Silver Trophy on Saturday, and the Grade Two Persian War Hurdle on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Munster National at Limerick and the Irish Cesarewitch at Navan dominate Sunday’s horse racing action.

MONDAY 8 OCTOBER


The week kicks off with a five fixture line-up of horse racing action which features afternoon flat racing action from Windsor and Pontefract, while Stratford and Tipperary in Ireland are racing over the sticks.

Elsewhere, Kempton are racing in the evening under the floodlights on their all-weather racetrack.

Windsor (flat) - 1.25 - 5.05pm (8 races)
Pontefract (flat) - 2.05 - 5.50pm (8 races)
Tipperary (jumps) - 2.10 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Stratford (jumps) - 2.15 - 5.30pm (7 races)
Kempton (flat, aw) - 5.45 - 9.15pm (7 races)

Windsor are racing on Monday as five meetings go to post across the UK and Ireland.


TUESDAY 9 OCTOBER


A further five UK and Irish horse racing meetings will go to post on Tuesday, and the day’s flat racing action comes from the cards at Brighton, Leicester and Catterick; whilst there is also jumps racing action going to post on the card at Galway.

In the evening, Newcastle race under the floodlights on their tapeta surface.

Galway (jumps) - 2.05 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Leicester (flat) - 2.15 - 6.00pm (8 races)

WEDNESDAY 10 OCTOBER


Wednesday plays host to another five fixture line-up of horse racing action with afternoon action on the flat at Nottingham, and also Cork in Ireland; while jumps racing goes to post at both Ludlow and Southwell.

Completing Wednesday’s fixture list is an evening all-weather meeting on the Kempton polytrack.

Nottingham (flat) - 2.00 - 5.00pm (7 races)
Cork (flat) - 2.05 - 5.05pm (7 races)
Ludlow (jumps) - 2.10 - 5.15pm (7 races)
Southwell (jumps) - 2.20 - 4.50pm (6 races)
Kempton (flat, aw) - 5.40 -8.40pm (7 races)

Southwell are racing over the sticks on Wednesday.


THURSDAY 11 OCTOBER


The loss of Exeter’s Thursday racecard due to unsafe ground leaves four meetings to go to post on the day across the UK and Ireland, and there is flat racing action from Ayr, as well as jumps racing from Worcester and also Thurles in Ireland.

The day’s trio of fixtures is completed by an evening all-weather meeting at Chelmsford.

Ayr (flat) - 2.05 - 5.15pm (7 races)
Thurles (jumps) - 2.10 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Chelmsford (flat, aw) - 5.45 - 8.45pm (7 races)

FRIDAY 12 OCTOBER


Friday’s horse racing action steps up a gear with six meetings scheduled to go to post across the UK and Ireland.

The day’s flat racing action comes from Newmarket, where the Cesarewitch Meeting gets underway and the card includes the Group One Fillies' Mile; while there is further racing on the level from York. Meanwhile, the day’s jumps racing comes courtesy of the meetings at Newton Abbot, as well as Down Royal in Ireland.

Completing Friday’s fixture list are a pair of all-weather fixtures, with action under the floodlights on Wolverhampton’s tapeta surface; while Dundalk in Ireland are racing on their polytrack surface.

Newmarket (flat) - 1.50 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Downpatrick (jumps) - 2.00 - 5.25pm (7 races)
York (flat) - 2.05 - 5.35pm (7 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 5.45 - 8.45pm (7 races)
Dundalk (flat, aw) - 6.00 - 9.00pm (7 races)

The Cesarewitch Meeting goes to post on Friday and Saturday.


SATURDAY 13 OCTOBER


Saturday’s fixture list of horse racing action sees seven UK and Irish fixtures take place, with the focus being on Newmarket where the Group One Dewhurst Stakes features alongside the famous Cesarewitch Handicap on Saturday’s card at Flat HQ.

Elsewhere, further flat racing action goes to post at York, where the Listed Rockingham Stakes goes to post on the card on the Knavesmire. Meanwhile, Limerick in Ireland are also racing on the level on Saturday.

Saturday’s jumps racing action comes from Hexham, as well as Chepstow whose meeting signifies the start of the Road to Cheltenham as the jumps season cranks up a notch. The Grade Three Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle is the feature race of the afternoon at the Welsh track.

There is also jumps racing action on the agenda in Ireland with a fixture at Fairyhouse; while on the all-weather there is a meeting under the floodlights at Chelmsford.

SUNDAY 14 OCTOBER


Four meetings will go to post to round off the week, and there is flat-racing action going to post at Goodwood, and also from Navan in Ireland where the Irish Cesarewitch goes to post just 24 hours after it’s UK counterpart.

Chepstow are racing over the sticks meanwhile with the Grade Two Persian War Hurdle dominating Sunday’s action at the Welsh track; while there is also a fixture over the sticks at Limerick where the Munster National takes centre stage.

Navan (flat) - 1.35 - 5.35pm (8 races)
Limerick (jumps) - 1.50 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Goodwood (flat) - 2.00 - 5.30pm (7 races)
Chepstow (jumps) - 2.15 - 5.40pm (7 race)

The winter Jumps season gets underway with a two-day fixture at Chepstow this weekend.
