Horse racing fixtures 9-15 July - Newmarket's July Meeting and John Smith's Day at York amongst the week's highlights

Newmarket's July Course is the scene for three days' top-class horse racing action this week.

Brian Healy previews this week's UK and Irish horse racing meetings, and details every fixture going to post over the next seven days.


An excellent week of horse racing action lies ahead, with the 2018 July Meeting taking centre stage at Newmarket; the classy festival is spearheaded by Saturday’s Group One July Cup, and over three fantastic days’ racing on the Newmarket July Course there will be several top stars on show.

York also hosts some quality equine fare with the Summer Stakes going to post on Friday, while it is John Smith's Day on Saturday at the Knavesmire, featuring the John Smith's Cup. And Ascot also gets in on the act on Saturday with the Group Two Summer Mile Stakes on the card at the Berkshire venue.

MONDAY 9 JULY


Six meetings go to post on Monday as a new week of horse racing action gets underway, and the afternoon action comes on the flat at Ayr on turf, and Wolverhampton on the all-weather; while over the sticks there is action from Worcester.

Moving into the evening and the is further flat racing action from Ripon and Windsor, as well as Roscommon in Ireland.

Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 2.10 - 5.55pm (8 races)

Ripon are racing on Monday.


TUESDAY 10 JULY


Five meetings will head to post throughout Tuesday, with afternoon action on the flat from the cards at Pontefract on turf, and Wolverhampton on the all-weather.

In the evening there is a further fixture on the level from Brighton; while over the sticks there is racing from Uttoxeter, and also Roscommon in Ireland.

Wednesday’s fixture list of horse racing meetings takes in five UK racecards, with action on the flat in the afternoon from the fixtures at Lingfield, Catterick and Yarmouth.

In the evening there is further flat racing action with a turf card from Bath, while Kempton race on the all-weather.

THURSDAY 12 JULY


Seven meetings go to post on Thursday’s fixture list of horse racing meetings, and it is day one of the July Meeting where there is Group Two action on the racecard with both the July Stakes and Racing Club Stakes heading to post.

Elsewhere there are meetings on the flat in the afternoon from Carlisle and Doncaster, while Dundalk in Ireland are racing on the all-weather.

In the evening, there is further action on the flat with meetings at Newbury and Epsom, while Leopardstown in Ireland also goes to post.

A busy Friday of UK and Irish horse racing meetings sees eight fixtures in total go to post throughout the day, and day two of the July Meeting features the Group One Falmouth Stakes as the pinnacle of Friday’s action on the July Course.

Elsewhere, York are racing on the flat alongside Ascot; while Downpatrick in Ireland are racing over the sticks.

In the evening, there is racing on the flat from Chepstow and Chester; while over the sticks there is action from Ffos Las, and also Cork in Ireland.

Elsewhere on the flat on Saturday, Ascot race alongside York and Chester, and also Navan in Ireland; while Newton Abbot goes over the sticks alongside an Irish jumps racing card at Limerick.

In the evening there is further action on the flat with cards from Salsibury and Hamilton both heading to post.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s sole action on the flat comes from the card at Killarney where there is Listed action.
