Brian Healy details every UK and Irish horse racing fixture 17-24 Feburary as he takes a look ahead to the next seven days' in the horse racing calendar.

A new week of horse racing action gets underway as the Road to the Cheltenham Festival grows ever shorter, and the greatest show on turf is only a few short weeks away.

Last week’s classy action which saw some of the top races from the abandoned week of racing due to the equine flu drama rescheduled has certainly thrown up plenty of Festival clues, and this week is sure to be no different with the feature races this week including the likes of the Grade Two Pendil Novices Chase and the Grade Two Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday, as well as the race which was formerly the Racing Post Chase with the latest renewal of the 888Sport Handicap Chase.

Elsewhere on the same day, Newcastle hosts the latest renewal of the Eider Chase, while it is Winter Derby Day at Lingfield, and also Bobbyjo Steeplechase day in Ireland at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Fontwell hosts the Grade Two National Spirit Hurdle, while further Graded action goes to post on Naas’ card on the same day to round off another top-class week of horse racing action.

MONDAY 18 FEBRUARY 


Monday’s fixture list plays host to just three UK meetings as the week gets off to a low key start, and the day’s jumps racing action comes from Carlisle, while on the all-weather there is an afternoon fixture at Lingfield on their polytrack surface.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s tapeta surface is the scene for some evening action under the floodlights.

Lingfield (flat, aw) - 1.45 - 4.55pm (7 races)
Carlisle (jumps) - 2.00 - 5.10pm (7 races)
Newcastle (flat, aw) - 5.00 - 8.00pm (7 races)

Carlisle are racing on Monday.


TUESDAY 19 FEBRUARY


Three more UK horse racing fixtures will go to post on Tuesday with afternoon jumps racing from Wetherby and Taunton, while there is also a fixture under the floodlights at Wolverhampton on their tapeta surface.

Taunton (jumps) - 2.10 - 5.20pm (7 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) - 5.30 - 8.30pm (7 races)

WEDNESDAY 20 FEBRUARY


An unusually busy Wednesday of horse racing action across the UK and Ireland with six fixtures going to post throughout the day, and there is afternoon jumps racing from Ludlow and Doncaster, as well as from Punchestown in Ireland where there is Listed action on the card.

Elsewhere, Newcastle are racing on their tapeta all-weather surface in the afternoon; while in the evening under the floodlights there are further fixtures on polytrack at Chelmsford, and on tapeta at Wolverhampton.

THURSDAY 21 FEBRUARY


Another six fixtures will go to post on Thursday across the UK and Ireland, and the day’s jumps racing action comes from the cards at Sedgefield, Huntingdon and Thurles in Ireland where Grade Three action features on the racecard.

Elsewhere, there is all-weather action with a fixture on the Southwell fibresand in the afternoon; while under the floodlights there are fixtures at Wolverhampton on tapeta, and Chelmsford on polytrack.

FRIDAY 22 FEBRUARY


Six more UK and Irish horse racing fixtures head to post throughout Friday, and the day’s jumps racing comes from the cards at Warwick, Catterick and Exeter; while there is also an all-weather fixture on the polytrack at Lingfield.

Meanwhile, there are evening fixtures under the floodlights on the all-weather with fixtures at Chelmsford, and also Dundalk in Ireland with both racing on polytrack.

SATURDAY 23 FEBRUARY


Another six fixture lineup of UK and Irish horse racing meetings awaits punters, and the day’s jumps racing comes from the fixtures at Chepstow, Newcastle and Kempton as well as Fairyhouse in Ireland.

Saturday’s feature races include the competitive marathon Eider Handicap Chase, while Kempton plays host to Graded action with a trio of Grade Two contests on the card as well as the 888Sport Handicap Chase on a cracking card at the Esher track.

There is also Graded action on Punchestown’s Saturday racecard, headed by the latest renewal of the Bobbyjo Steeplechase.

Elsewhere, all-weather action on Saturday comes from the meetings at Lingfield on polytrack in the afternoon, where the Group Three Winter Derby heads the action; while there is also racing from Wolverhampton on tapeta in the evening under the floodlights.

SUNDAY 24 FEBRUARY


After a busy week of horse racing action, Sunday sees a much more sedate schedule of UK and Irish fixtures, and just three meetings go to post with jumps racing from Fontwell and Carlisle, and also from Naas in Ireland.

The Grade Two National Spirit Hurdle heads up Fontwell’s card on Sunday, while Graded action also features on the card at Naas where Grade Two and Grade Three action goes to post.
