Jack Kennedy makes incredible recovery before winning at Clonmel

Jack Kennedy has gained plaudits from all corners of the sport for his exploits in the saddle.

Star jockey Jack Kennedy performed an amazing acrobatic recovery before riding Robin Des Mana to victory at Clonmel on Thursday afternoon.

Jack Kennedy was tipped to be a star of the future several years ago, but I doubt anyone would have predicted how quickly the teenager would become one of the best jockeys in the sport. At the ripe old age of 18, Kennedy has won numerous Grade Ones for Gordon Elliott and Gigginstown Stud. He’s also ridden a winner at the Cheltenham Festival, guiding Labaik to Supreme Novices’ Hurdle glory earlier this year.

Just when you thought Kennedy’s stock in the saddle couldn’t rise any higher, the young Irishman goes and performs this miracle feat at Clonmel.

Riding Gordon Elliott’s 7/2 shot Robin Des Mana, Kennedy parted company with his saddle after the novice chaser jinked left jumping a fence. With one foot still in his irons, Kennedy managed to cling on for dear life and was, at one point, lying horizontally along the back of his mount’s neck. Yet, the super-jockey was able to successfully regain his position in the saddle and continue the race, which he went on to win by half-a-length.

Nevermind ride of the week, or even ride of the month. They might as well close the ride of the year voting now and hand the trophy to Jack Kennedy after that amazing display of strength, determination and horsemanship. The boy’s a star!
