Friday 8 February horse racing tips - Feane's 5/4 chance can strike again at Dundalk

Brian Healy 7 Feb 2019
Dundalk are racing on Friday evening.

Brian Healy looks at Friday's UK and Irish horse racing meetings and gives his race-by-race selections and best bets for all meetings.

The equine influenza crisis continues, and Friday's scheduled UK meetings have been lost as a result which leaves only Dundalk to fly the flag for Friday's horse racing action.

Dundalk (flat, aw) - 5.00 - 8.30pm (8 races)

FRIDAY 8 FEBRUARY NAP SELECTION

DUNDALK

(5.00) YUFTEN (5/4, William Hill) was a very useful performer for Jonny Murtagh and then Roger Charlton, contesting at Listed level for the former and winning the valuable Balmoral Handicap for the latter before losing his way somewhat dramatically, and a subsequent switch to Jeremy Butler did little to rekindle the enthusiasm in the Invincible Spirit gelding.

However, a switch back to Ireland and John Feane saw the eight-year old get back on the scoresheet - albeit in a claimer - and with confidence hopefully restored he can follow up here.

He ran out a four lengths’ winner over Hasselnott on that occasion, where a subsequent winner was further behind; and he ought to prove too good for these rivals if able to reproduce that sort of effort here where he has 11lbs and more in hand of his rivals on ratings.

Yuften can make it 2-2 at Dundalk since joining John Feane.

(6.00) 100-rated SWISSTERIOUS (7/1, William Hill) would be giving away weight to each of these four rivals in a handicap, so Damien English’s charge is worth siding with on these terms to get back on the scoresheet.

The Swiss Spirit colt was a Doncaster winner last July on turf when trained by Karl Burke, after which he was thrust into some decent company and he didn’t disgrace himself when finishing fifth of eight runners behind Phoenix Of Spain in the Acomb Stakes.

Not seen since beating only one home at Newcastle behind Concierge back in October, there is a chance he may need this run; but he sets the standard on his previous form and he could prove a tough nut to crack on these terms.

5.00 - Yuften
5.30 - Kasbah
6.00 - Swissterious
6.30 - Gougane Barra
7.00 - Man Power
7.30 - Chess Grand Master
8.00 - Sleepy Head
8.30 - Brokopondo
