Wejdan ran a promising race on her pattern-race debut at York, finishing fifth in the Lowther Stakes. Looking back, that doesn’t seem the strongest Group Two and William Haggas’ filly will have to improve significantly if she wants to land this Group Three. Valeria Messalina is yet another two-year-old filly to fly Jessica Harrington’s flag in pattern-race company and Shane Foley’s mount has to be respected, despite her inexperience.

Final Song looks likely to go off as the strong favourite here, after Saeed Bin Suroor decided this was a more appropriate target than the Fillies’ Mile. While her form behind Raffle Prize at Ascot and the July Festival is, arguably, the strongest on offer, I never got the feeling she was crying out for trips beyond sprinting and seven-furlongs on the Rowley Mile will take some getting, especially with the amount of rain we've had.

The solid bet here has to be STLYISTIQUE (NAP). Roger Varian’s filly may still be a maiden, but she’s run some excellent races in good quality contests and this looks an ideal opportunity to earn a first career victory.

Andrea Atzeni was in the saddle as Stylistique lost out to Boomer on debut, before going down by a neck to Melinkova – who finished third behind Quadrilateral on her first turf start – on the all-weather at Kempton. Another defeat to Boomer followed at Goodwood, where Stylistique was forced to tred a wide berth from the widest stall of all and stayed on well down the straight to finish fourth.

Varian then spied a big handicap prize in the Nursery Handicap during the Ebor Festival, where Stylistique was lumbered with top weight. The joint-favourite travelled nicely through the race, but was hampered at a crucial stage and eventually lost out to Graceful Magic by a short-head. The winner was gaining almost a stone on Stylistique at the weights that day and boosted the form at Ayr, finishing a close second in the Group Three Firth Of Clyde Stakes.

Stylistique suffered yet another narrow defeat on her most recent outing, losing out to the classy Daahyeh in the Shadwell Rockfel Stakes when carrying odds of 14/1 to post. The RPR of 109 she received for that runner-up finish is the highest any of the runners in the Oh So Sharp Stakes have managed thus far. The experience Stylistique gained on the Rowley Mile that day could prove invaluable and, considering she and Daahyeh were drawn seven and eight, Andrea Atzeni will feel he’s perfectly placed coming out of gate six. 11/4 looks a cracking price to me!
