Saturday 14th September expert tips - Logician the name on every expert's lips in St Leger

Jonathan Vine 14 Sep 2019
Doncaster races.

We've taken a look through various horse racing media publications to bring you which horses the newspaper tipsters are backing on day four of Doncaster's St Leger meeting.

Rob Wright (The Times)
1.50 Wentworth Falls (14/1 888Sport
2.25 Turjomaan (NAP) (5/2 Mr Green)
3.00 Juan Elcano (5/1 Betway)
3.35 Logician (30/1 William Hill)
4.10 Kingbrook (5/1 888Sport)
4.45 Baltic Baron (3/1 Mr Green)
5.55 Almost Midnight (11/4 Betway)

Matt Chapman (ITV Racing)
1.50 A Momentofmadness (7/1 Betway)
2.25 Sir Dancealot (13/2 Mr Green)
3.00 Royal Crusade (10/3 888Sport)
3.35 Logician (NAP) (30/1 William Hill)

Sam Turner (The Daily Mail)
1.50 Muthmir (12/1 888Sport)
2.25 Turjomaan (5/2 Mr Green)
3.00 Juan Elcano (5/1 Betway)
3.35 Logician (30/1 William Hill)
4.10 Kingbrook (5/1 888Sport)
4.45 NR
5.55 Almost Midnight (11/4 Betway)

Templegate (The Sun)
1.50 A MOMENTOFMADNESS (7/1 Betway) can defend his Portland Stakes crown. Charles Hills’ speedster comes here a handy 4lb lower in the weights than when winning this 12 months ago. He ran his best race for a long time when beaten just over a length in hot company at York last time.

2.25 SHINE SO BRIGHT (11/8 Mr Green) can light up the Park Stakes. He took a step forward when beating Laurens in a tight finish for a York Group 2 last time. This 7f distance is right up his street and he should get his favoured quick ground again.

3.00 JUAN ELCANO (5/1 Betway) can send the corks popping in the Champagne Stakes. He won his maiden at Haydock but left that form far behind when finishing an excellent second in the Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. He still looked very green there and has been given a little break, which looks a wise move by trainer Kevin Ryan. Richard Hannon thinks a lot of Threat and he repaid his faith with a convincing win in the Gimcrack at York.

3.35 LOGICIAN (30/1 William Hill) makes perfect sense in the St Leger. This son of Frankel has been brought along quietly by master trainer John Gosden. After three comfortable wins at a lesser level, he unleashed his full power in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last month. That was his big test to see if he was Classic material and he passed it with flying colours, giving his rivals a beating without having to hit top gear. He shapes as though this longer trip will suit and looks hard to beat.

Chris Cook (The Guardian)
1.50 Makanah (NAP) (20/1 Betway)
2.25 Turjomaan (5/2 Mr Green)
3.00 Threat (11/10 888Sport)
3.35 Logician (30/1 William Hill)
4.10 Kingbrook (5/1 888Sport)
4.45 Bayroot (2/1 Betway)
5.55 Kitaabaat (2/1 Mr Green)

The Scout (Daily Express)
1.50 Gunmetal (16/1 Mr Green)
2.25 Never No More (NAP) (15/2 888Sport)
3.00 Threat (11/10 888Sport)
3.35 Logician (30/1 William Hill)
4.10 Kingbrook (5/1 888Sport)
4.45 NR
5.55 The Trader (5/4 Betway)
