Steve Mullen's ITV Tips (The Sun)
2.45 York - LAKE VOLTA (12/1 William Hill) is at the top of his game and can land York’s big sprint. He rarely runs a bad race and landed a decent handicap success at Goodwood three runs ago over this distance. Mark Johnston has stepped him up in class since then and he has taken it in his stride. He was a close second in a hot race at Epsom’s Derby meeting before a more than respectable eighth in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot last time out. He is proven in this class and another good run is on the cards.

3.00 Newc - COEUR DE LION (13/2 Coral) was a little unlucky when finishing fifth in the marathon Ascot Stakes at last week’s Royal meeting. He had to come through the field in the closing stages and that definitely cost him. It was still a good run and it underlined his bottomless stamina.

3.35 Newc - PROSCHEMA (12/1 Totesport) could be the answer to a wide open Northumberland Plate. He’s been in good form over slightly shorter but gives the strong impression that stepping up to this 2m trip will bring out the best in him. Tom Dascombe’s hope likes to be up with the pace as he was at Newmarket behind when finishing just behind Red Galileo and Speedo Boy. All three of those would have good chances today but my fancy looks the most progressive of the trio.
