Saturday’s ITV Racing tips – Huge each-way Trixie for Saturday’s big handicaps

Our expert has taken a look through the betting for the three major handicaps at Ascot, Newmarket and York on Saturday and rolled his selections into this each-way Trixie with BetVictor.

The final day of Newmarket’s July Festival is highlighted by the historic July Cup and a strong field of 14 will battle it out for the Group One prize. Along with the festivities at Newmarket, there’s action coming to us live from Ascot and York on Saturday, with three historic handicaps providing punters with the opportunity to find a big price winner.

Our expert has taken a look through the betting for the Ascot Heritage Handicap, the Bunbury Cup and the John Smith Cup, combining his selections into this profitable each-way Trixie with BetVictor.

12:45pm Ascot Bet With Ascot Heritage Handicap (Class 2) 5f

Tanasoq has been in fantastic form this season and Major Jumbo’s consistency has to be applauded. However, I was impressed with SPRING LOADED’S reappearance run in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot and he should strip fitter following that return to action.

Despite spending over 200 days on the sidelines, Paul D’Arcy’s managed to finish a three-and-a-half length ninth at Ascot. Spring Loaded hit some traffic as he tried to make his winning charge two from home, passing the post just half-a-length behind Gilgamesh, who heads the betting for the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket.

Dropping back to five furlongs may not seem ideal, but Spring Loaded has run well over this trip on this kind of ground in the recent past and his extra staying power could help he get his head ahead of the pack. 100 would be the highest rating Adam Kirby’s mount has ever won with, but Spring Loaded triumphed carrying 99 in December 16 and he has several decent results here at Ascot to back up his claims.

1:40pm Newmarket bet365 Bunbury Cup Handicap (Class 2) 7f

Gilgamesh has been pushed to the head of affairs after landing a king wide draw. Donnacha O’Brien rides Mubtasim for William Haggas and they are a dangerous new partnership to be respected. As do any horses trained by Roger Charlton – a two-time winner of the Bunbury Cup – and he looks to have a strong chance of scoring a third victory with MAKZEEM.

On this card last year, Charlton’s gelding finished second in the consolation race for this, the Silver Bunbury Cup, where he was unlucky to run into an inspired Parfait. Infact, all of Makzeem’s best performances have come here at flat racing HQ, having scored impressive victories on the Rowley Mile and here on the July Course.

A couple of tame efforts in Listed company have helped Makzeem’s rating drop back towards a workable mark and – despite winning well on softer going – the six-year-old has won twice on good-to-firm going. Ryan Moore was in the saddle for all of Makzeem’s appearance at Newmarket in 2017 and Roger Charlton’s stable has been on fire of late.

Appeared (centre, yellow black spots) finishing behind Dash Of Spice (second left, near) in The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes.

3:40pm York 59th John Smith's Cup Handicap (Class 2) 1m2½f

Dash Of Spice is a favoured horse of mine and David Ellsworth Royal Ascot winner looks a worthy favourite. While Thundering Blue poses the market leader an obvious threat, APPEARED didn’t lose out by far as he made his reappearance in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes and could take well to this shortened trip.

Roger Varian’s charge hadn’t been seen since last August until he lined up at Ascot. Andrea Atzeni pushed his mount to the front with two furlongs to travel, before Dash Of Spice and a couple of other rivals saw out the trip better to pass the leader.

A quick look through Appeared’s form card tells you he works best during the early stages of the season. The son of Dubawi has won on firm ground and also registered a victory on the Knavesmire during his four-year-old season.

Andrea Atzeni has won the John Smith’s Cup twice, teaming up with Roger Varian to score with Farraaj in 2014. Farraaj carried 9-11 and was drawn in stall 22 that day, so Appeared is by no means unconvinced coming out of gate 20 with 9-7 on his back and could have enough muscle to overpower his younger rivals.

Minimum Return Breakdown (£10 overall bet)

TWO PLACES - £12.25

THREE PLACES - £80.68

TWO WINNERS - £149.75

TWO WINS AND A PLACE - £218.18

THREE WINNERS - £2346.93
