Racing over the sticks at Haydock, four races will be shown live from the Merseyside track; while on the level at Musselburgh, the Scottish Sprint Cup heads the action north of the border.

1:50 Musselburgh - Silver Arrow Handicap Cl3 (4yo+ 0-95) 7f

Porth Swtan and RASELASAD (6/1, Boylesport) reoppose here having finished 1-2 over course and distance 18 days ago; Tracy Waggott’s charge is taken to come out on top this time with a 3lbs pull at the weights.

The Acclamation gelding is a course and distance winner himself, scoring here back in August 2017; he subsequently showed some fair form last campaign without managing to get his head in front until popping up on his final start of the season at Catterick last August.

The five-year old did little wrong last time out on his return from seven months off the track, unable to sustain his effort having made most until headed in the last half-furlong. He could overturn that form now on these revised terms, while the pair finished ahead of two other rivals in that contest who also reoppose.

There may not be much between the quartet again, but the Tracy Waggott-trained gelding has made the frame in all three starts here, including that earlier success, and he is chanced to find further improvement where he can gain some revenge on his last time conquerer.

2:05 Haydock - Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 1m7½f

CAUSE TOUJOURS (5/1, Boylesport) could be worth siding with to get back on the scoresheet having finished in the runner-up berth on each of his last three starts.

Ian Williams’ charge won each of his first two starts following wind surgery and a switch to this yard, scoring at Kempton and Aintree, and he wasn’t disgraced on his return from three months off in the Prelude Hurdle back in September.

He has since collected silver medals at Carlisle, Haydock and Aintree, latterly behind West To The Edge; that winner has since sccored again, and returning here from another break he could go close despite some reservations about his attitude at the finish.

This mark is however workable, and he ought to get involved with the potential still for further improvement.

2:25 Musselburgh - Royal Mile Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 1m

Hugo Palmer doesn’t send many runners to Musselburgh, so the decision to send ON THE LINE (7/2, Boylesport) on the long journey northwards could reap dividends and the Dark Angel colt ought to go close here.

A fair juvenile, he has found a chunk of improvement this year to make the frame in each of his last three starts which includes opening his win account with a success over Little Rock on the Lingfield all-weather surface back in March.

He ran out an impressive winner that day, and he did little wrong when finishing just one length behind Absolution who benefitted from an enterprising ride and the Palmer horse was probably just given too much to do having conceded first run.

The pair had pulled clear of the rest however, and there could still be more improvement to come despite a further 4lb rise in the weights. He can go well again, and no surprise to see him competitive.

2:40 Haydock - Challenger Staying Chase Series Final Handicap Chase Cl2 (5yo+) 3m1½f

QUARENTA (3/1, Boylesport) has already shown much improved form over fences having made the switch from hurdling where his mark might have anchored him; and having finished fourth to Glen Forsa on his first try over the larger obstacles, the Voix Du Nord gelding has won two of his next three outings which includes at Warwick back in February.

Jonjo O’Neill’s charge had a neck to spare over Global Dream, getting up for the win despite bungling the last fence and losing some momentum, and he can defy a 5lbs rise in the weights here with the potential for better as a stayer given that he remains an unexposed sort in this discipline.

Narrow margins of victory could leave him still potentially well-treated despite his hike in the weights, and no surprise to see him competitive again.

3:00 Musselburgh - Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap Cl2 (4yo+) 5f

Charlie Hills’ A MOMENTOFMADNESS (9/1, Boylesport) could be the one to keep onside in a competitive renewal of this contest, and the Elnadim gelding can enhance his fine record when making his seasonal debut.

He has won twice and made the frame twice on his first run of each campaign, and he was a three-time winner last term from nine starts which included the Portland Handicap at Doncaster where he ran out a narrow winner over Encrypted.

Soft ground was possibly against him on his final outing of the campaign behind Intense Romance in an Ascot Listed contest, where he beat only one rival home in the Rous Stakes; but he’ll be much better suited to this faster ground while the sharp track here will play to his strengths.

Given his excellent record when fresh, he is worth chancing to continue his fine seasonal debut performances, and his current mark remains workable so every chance he can post a big run here.

3:15 Haydock - Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle Cl2 (4yo+) 3m½f

COURT LIABILITY (15/2, Boylesport) is given another chance having shaped as if amiss and pulled up at Doncaster back in February. Harry Whittington’s charge can bounce back here with a return to winning ways.

The Court Cave gelding was a Fontwell bumper winner back in October 2017 on his first outing for this yard, after which he reeled off a hat-trick of hurdles wins which included over this trip at Musselburgh in December.

Far from disgraced in a stronger race at Huntingdon next time, the six-year old bombed when last seen although all may not have been well. Eased 1lb in the weights and with cheekpieces now applied, he could do better here and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him bounce back with an improved run.

3:35 Musselburgh - Queen's Cup Stakes (A Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (4yo+) 1m6f ITV4

Ulster will be dangerous if able to translate his all-weather form to turf, but AUSTRIAN SCHOOL (9/2, Boylesport) ran a series of good races last term and Mark Johnston’s charge can get his head in front here.

After winning his first two starts of the season last campaign, the consistent Teofilo colt subsequently found it hard to add to his tally; but he always gave his running and he finished third or runner-up in seven of his next nine outings at Listed level and in valuable handicaps which include being denied only by a neck over this course last August behind Timoshenko.

The Johnston runner was last seen finishing two lengths’ third behind Ghostwatch at Ascot in the Noel Murless stakes, unable to match the finishing effort of the front pair having made most; but he could have improved again from three years to four years and he competes here from the same mark as that Ascot outing.

He goes well fresh as evidenced by a debut success, and also winning on his seasonal reappearance last term, and every chance he can post another big effort here as he bids to end his losing sequence with a return to winning ways.
