Saturday’s racing tips – Money back if our 9/2 NAP at Ascot loses

Our expert looks through all of Saturday’s televised races and selects a prime contender in the feature race at Ascot as his NAP of the day with Paddy Power.

Newmarket’s July Festival will hog the headlines on Saturday, but ITV Racing viewers will also be treated to a couple of excellent races from York and Ascot tomorrow afternoon. The main event on Ascot’s card is the Summer Mile and it’s to that Group Three where our expert looks for his NAP of the day with Paddy Power.

Eminent is the joker in the pack here at Ascot. While clearly a horse with bundles of ability, results this season are far from encouraging and I’m not sure the drop in trip will suit. It’s unlikely the firm ground will suit French raider Trais Fluors, but he has a couple of decent placed efforts in good races to back up his claims.

After a terrible reappearance in the Lockinge, Beat The Bank looked much more like the horse we saw last year and he could appreciate the drop in grade. Century Dream won well at Epsom and finished ahead of Beat The Bank at Ascot. However, both crossed the line behind the ever consistent LORD GLITTERS and it’s the Queen Anne runner-up who gets my vote.

Lord Glitters has been a model of consistency throughout his career, finishing outside the top two places just twice in 14 starts in England and in France. David O’Meara’s charge picked up where he left off in 2017 with a runner-up finish to Addeyyb in the Lincoln – when giving eight pounds to the winner – and O’Meara decided his miler deserved a crack at the Queen Anne.

Like the Commonwealth Cup later in the week, it’s hard to read into the form of the Queen Anne, seeing as most of the top guns failed to fire. Accidental Agent got the win ahead of Lord Glitters, but to suggest either’s performance was a fluke would be a little unfair and both dealt with the big occasion extremely well.

Horses older than four have won nine of the past 15 renewals of the Summer Mile. Lord Glitters has won here at Ascot, has experience running around a bend from his time in France and travels to Berkshire on the back of a career-best performance. He has every change of winning a maiden Grouped prize on Saturday.
