Last week, I enjoyed great success NAP’ing Siruh Du Lac in a handicap at Cheltenham, so I thought I’d use a similar tactic again. Ballymoy is one of my tracker horses and has to be respected, but he has a very tough task carrying top-weight over three miles, having never tackled the trip before and with just two runs over two miles under his belt.

Although Sandown is the perfect track for a horse moving up to three miles, I’d prefer to back an entrant with proven stamina in a competitive Graded handicap. Eminent Poet was very good the last day and goes for the in-form Venetia Williams stable. Yet, I prefer the chances of KEEPER HILL, who remains well-handicapped over hurdles and brings solid form to Sandown.

After starting his novice chasing season with a Grade Two victory at Doncaster, Keeper Hill’s jumping fell apart and Warren Greatrex decided to revert back to hurdles at the start of the new season. On his first start over the smaller obstacles, and following a summer back operation, Greatrex’s eight-year-old looked very rusty, finishing last of five in the West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby.

Second time out, Keeper Hill looked much more like his old self, carrying top-weight to second in a competitive Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham. Greatrex’s charge then went one better in a Pertemps Qualifier at Warwick, surviving a slight error at the last to seal an impressive three lengths victory over 25 furlongs.

Five pounds is a perfectly reasonably rise for a victory of that nature and Keeper Hill still looks well-treated off a mark of 144. Harry Teal, who gave the Max McNeill-owned hurdler a great ride at Warwick, takes five pounds off his back again and Keeper Hill has won three of his four outings on right-handed tracks. 9/1 looks a fantastic price!
