Money has come for Al Suhail during the week and Charlie Appleby’s youngster is the unknown quantity in the race, having run in just two maidens. William Buick’s mount won as easily as you’d expect a 1/6 shot to win last time out, but he still looked quite raw and sweaty that day and doesn’t have the same big-race experience as his rivals at the head of the betting.

Visinari kept on reasonably well on his first start over seven furlongs and there’s certainly more to come from Mark Johnston’s colt over this trip. Ryan Moore’s mount will cut out the running again, like he did in the Vintage Stakes. However, POSITIVE comfortably swept his rival aside when they clashed at Goodwood and the race could set up perfectly for Clive Cox’s charge to claim his first Grouped prize.

Positive travelled to Goodwood on the back of an excellent debut at Salisbury, where Adam Kirby’s mount cruised to a hugely impressive six length triumph over two future winners. Cox’s charge started a little slowly as Visinari bounded forward along the rail, but Kirby managed to find the ideal position behind Pinatubo as the field turned for home. While the winner proved way too classy to catch, Positive finished off his race very nicely, staying on beyond Visinari and Lope Y Fernandez to claim a convincing second.

As two-year-old form goes, a second to Pinatubo is as good as it gets in 2019. Positive seemed very comfortable around the tight, right-handed track at Goodwood, so the transition to a very similar track in Sandown should pose no problems at all. Trips beyond seven furlongs will suit Positive over time, but Visinari could turn this contest into more of a test of stamina and I’m hopeful Kirby’s mount will pass with flying colours on Saturday.
