Our expert takes a look through all of Saturday’s televised races and highlights a strong challenger in a Group Three at York as his best bet of the day with William Hill.

Enbihaar made all to win a Listed prize over a mile-and-a-half on his reappearance at Goodwood. John Gosden’s charge showed plenty of pace in the closing stages there and didn’t get home when he tried his hand at this distance last term. Plus, the odds-on favourite at Goodwood clearly underperformed and Enbihaar will be under much more severe scrutiny on Saturday.

Made Up was never going to prosper when the Jockey Club Stakes turned into a half-mile sprint and Andrew Balding’s filly will appreciate the step back up in trip. However, I feel the one to beat here is clearly PILASTER, who boasts the best three-year-old form and goes for the in-form Roger Varian operation.

After a couple of smart victories on the all-weather, Pilaster edged out Maid Up to win the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last summer. Varian’s filly then finished a staying on third in the Park Hill Stakes, where Andrea Atzeni’s mount got rolling far too late in the day, before finding the step up to Group One company a little too much to cope with on her final start of the year at Ascot.

Pilaster was backed into clear odds-on favouritism on her reappearance at Nottingham but it wasn’t to be, as Ryan Moore’s mount was comfortably beaten into third. With all of his regular jockey’s otherwise occupied, Varian has called upon the services of Colm O’Donoghue – who guided Alpha Centauri to three Group Ones last season – to help Pilaster bounce back from that disappointing return and Varian’s forces remain in fantastic fettle. I would be disappointed if Pilaster didn’t prove herself to be the best of this modest bunch.
