Sunday 9 June horse racing tips - Elliott's 7/4 chance can hit the Jackpot at Perth

Brian Healy 9 Jun 2019
Goodwood and Perth make up Sunday's horse racing programme.

Brian Healy gives his race-by-race selections and best bets for Sunday's scheduled UK fixtures at Goodwood and Perth.

Only two meetings go to post on Sunday, and there flat racing action from Goodwood; while jumps racing action comes from the meeting at Perth where the competitive Perth Gold Cup takes centre-stage.

Goodwood (flat) - 2.00 - 5.15pm (7 races)
Perth (jumps) - 2.15 - 5.30pm (7 races)

(3.05) PAPER STAR (13/8, William Hill) has made the frame on all three career starts to date, which include twice finishing runner-up with the latest coming at Hamilton last month where the Make Believe filly was beaten just over one length behind Rose Of Kildare.

She was only run down late in the day on that occasion by the winner, and dropping now into selling company she sets the standard on her outings to date, and she can get off the mark if repeating that effort.

(3.40) BAILARICO (11/1, Bet365) was prolific last term both on the flat and over hurdles, reeling off five on the spin for this yard on the level before winning two of five hurdles starts.

Warren Greatrex’s charge has returned to action in decent heart this term, making the frame in all three outings which includes finding only True Destiny too strong at Nottingham at May where he sported a first-time visor.

Possibly guilty of conceding first run to the winner, he had pulled clear of the rest and he should remain competitive despite a 1lb rise in the weights.

(5.15) SPIRIT OF MAY (6/1, Ladbrokes) has made the frame in each of his last three handicap starts, scoring at Chelmsford in April; Roger Teal’s charge was denied only by a neck latest at Salisbury last month where he had two subsequent winners behind.

The Coach House gelding has been raised 3lbs for that effort, but it is possible that he will have more to offer over this longer trip which ought to suit.

He has softer ground to contend with here, and he will have to show he can handle these conditions. But if the ground doesn’t prove a negative then he can get back on the scoresheet with a repeat of that last outing.

2.00 - Mubhij
2.30 - Banksy’s Art
3.05 - Paper Star
3.40 - Bailarico
4.10 - Boy In The Bar
4.45 - Norma
5.15 - Spirit Of May

(2.45) COPPER WEST (11/4, Bet365) got off the mark at Leicester back in December, although he was handed that victory when Somewhere To Be crashed out at the last fence when holding a commanding advantage; but Tom George’s charge derived confidence from that effort and followed up in decisive fashion at Haydock on his return from a break back in April.

The Westerner gelding struck by almost five lengths on that occasion, and the pair pulled well clear of the rest of the field. Raised 10lbs for that effort, he showed he can be competitive from this mark when finishing third back at Haydock last time, and he can go well again here from the same handicap mark with underfoot conditions unlikely to present a problem.

(3.55) GLOBAL JACKPOT (7/4, William Hill) is 2-2 at this venue, and Gordon Elliott’s charge can extend his perfect record at the track with a first win over fences.

The Flying Legend gelding made a decent fist of things on his chase debut at Fairyhouse in April, finishing third behind Or Jaune De Somoza; but he failed to back up that performance next time when trailing in a well-beaten fourth of nine runners behind Cooldine Bog at Ballinrobe.

Possibly amiss, he has been given a month off and if able to bounce back then he can go close here.

2.15 - Carrie Des Champs
2.45 - Copper West
3.20 - Lady Samback
3.55 - Global Jackpot
4.25 - Indian Temple
5.00 - Presence Felt
5.30 - Laurie Come On
