An open beginners chase which is sure to excite the fans and Slanelough is the favourite, having run respectably on both his starts over fences. While he and Mr McGo, who was making his first start in 18 months at Bangor earlier this month, are worth a second looks, I fancy SCORPION SID to run a big one stepping back up in trip.

Jamie Snowdon’s mount made an encouraging start over hurdles last term, comfortably beating some decent rivals on heavy ground at Chepstow and Ffos Las. Snowdon decided to throw Scorpian Sid right up to three miles on his final start over hurdles, where he was comfortably beaten by odds-on favourite, Calett Mad.

Scorpion Sid found himself in with Kalashnikov on his chasing debut, and it was no surprise when Snowden’s six-year-old trailed over the line a distant third. This, however, is a much easier task over a slightly longer trip, and softer ground, which will certainly suit. Sam Twiston-Davies is an excellent jockey booking and both of Scorpion Sid’s victories over hurdles came on similar tracks to this.
