The front gates are open at Royal Ascot!

We've taken a look through various horse racing media publications to bring you which horses the newspaper experts are backing on day one at Royal Ascot

Rob Wright (The Times)
2.30 Barney Roy (6/1 Totesport)
3.05 Threat (11/4 Coral)
3.40 Imprimis (11/1 Totesport)
4.20 King Of Comedy (6/1 Coral)
5.00 Time To Study (16/1 Totesport)
5.35 Willie John (NAP) (11/1 Totesport)

Sam Turner (The Daily Mail)
2.30 Le Brivido (6/1 Coral)
3.05 Guildsman (7/1 Totesport)
3.40 Battaash (2/1 Totesport)
4.20 King Of Comedy (6/1 Coral)
5.00 Batts Rock (12/1 Totesport)
5.35 Elarqam (NAP) (9/2 Coral)

Templegate (The Sun)
2.30 Ascot - BARNEY ROY (6/1 Totesport) missed the whole of last season having been retired to stud but he failed to fire with the fillies and was sent back into training having been parted from his stallion equipment. His form this season has come in Listed races but it suggests his old ability is still there. He finished runner-up behind improving Zaaki over today’s track and trip before overcoming traffic problems to strike at Longchamp.

3.05 Ascot - GUILDSMAN (7/1 Totesport) in the Coventry Stakes. His young trainer Archie Watson has made a big impression with his juveniles. Last year he won the Windsor Castle at this meeting and this season he has made a superb start with his team of two-year-olds.

3.40 Ascot - MABS CROSS (8/1 Coral) is way over-priced to land Royal Ascot’s top 5f prize. She proved herself well up to the top level last year and Michael Dods’ flying filly has been better than ever this term.

4.20 Ascot - SKARDU (12/1 Totesport) came from the rear against the track bias to win the Craven Stakes on just his second start in April and similar tactics worked when he was third – first home of those to race in the main pack down the middle of the track - in the 2000 Guineas.

5.00 Ascot - BATTS ROCK (NAP) (12/1 Totesport) was useful for Michael Bell and he won his first two Flat starts after moving to Gordon Elliott. It’s fair to say he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations over hurdles but, despite breaking his duck at Downpatrick last month, he doesn’t really look to be enjoying it.

5.35 Ascot - ELARQAM (9/2 Coral) didn’t quite live up to the high expectations last season but he’s the type to do well as a four-year-old. Last year started well for Mark Johnston’s ace with a fourth behind Saxon Warrior in the 2000 Guineas. That was as good as it got but he had a breathing operation during the winter and it looks to have done the trick if his smooth Goodwood win in a decent Listed contest is anything to go by.

Chris Cook (The Guardian)
2.30 Mustashry (5/1 Totesport)
3.05 Threat (11/4 Coral)
3.40 Blue Point (3/1 Totesport)
4.20 Phoenix Of Spain (NAP) (9/4 Coral)
5.00 The Grand Visir (20/1 Totesport)
5.35 Star Of Bengal (11/1 Totesport)

Alex Hammond's Treble (Sky Sports Racing)
2.30 Olmedo (16/1 Totesport)
3.40 Battaash (2/1 Totesport)
4.20 Phoenix Of Spain (9/4 Coral)

The Scout (Daily Express)
2.30 Mustashry (5/1 Totesport)
3.05 Arizona (3/1 Totesport)
3.40 Battaash (NAP) (2/1 Totesport)
4.20 Too Darn Hot (9/4 Coral)
5.00 Gunnery (14/1 Totesport)
5.35 Magic Wand (5/1 Coral)

Steve Mullen (The Sun)
2.30 MUSTASHRY (5/1 Totesport) won the Lockinge fair and square at Newbury last time and can follow up in the Queen Anne Stakes.

3.05 GUILDSMAN (7/1 Totesport) looks a big price in the Coventry Stakes. Archie Watson has made a name for himself as a top trainer of two-year-olds and he has another hot prospect on his hands here.

3.40 BLUE POINT (NAP) (3/1 Totesport) loves Ascot and has landed three good wins here, including this race 12 months ago. He had a good autumn in Dubai, with three victories including a Group 1 last time out in March. Coming here fresh worked well last year and he’s the one to beat again.

4.20 TOO DARN HOT (9/4 Coral) deserves another chance in the St James’s Palace Stakes. Top trainer John Gosden admits he hasn’t managed his star colt perfectly this season and his second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas last time was a perfectly decent effort.

5.00 COEUR DE LION (7/1 Totesport) ran a belter to win a hot race at Chester last time and can go well in the Ascot Stakes.

5.35 ELARQAM (9/2 Coral) impressed when scoring at Goodwood last time and can follow up in the Wolferton.

Oli Bell (Sporting Life)
2.30 Accidental Agent (14/1 Coral)
3.05 Threat (11/4 Coral)
3.40 Battaash (2/1 Totesport)
4.20 Phoenix Of Spain (NAP) (9/4 Coral)
5.00 Buildmeupbuttercup (13/2 Totesport)
5.35 Zihba (50/1 Totesport)

Timeform Tips
2.30 Mustashry (5/1 Totesport)
3.05 Guildsman (7/1 Totesport)
3.40 Battaash (2/1 Totesport)
4.20 King Of Comedy (6/1 Coral)
5.00 Kerosin (16/1 Totesport)
5.35 Addeybb (7/1 Coral)
