The betting is headed here by two three-year-olds, with Pempie and Bella Vita both winning over course-and-distance on their most recent starts. Of the two, Bella Vita holds the most appeal. However, three-year-olds often come unstuck when they tackle their elders in handicap company for the first time and, with conditions likely to worsen as the day wears on, siding with experience looks the way to go.

She Believes beat Inclyne, favourite for the following race, when the two clashed at Ascot last month and could be a factor. I, however, prefer the look of TIME FOR A TOOT (NAP), who has been running better the her bare results suggest and looks significantly overpriced sitting on 10/1.

Charlie Hill’s charge took the notable scalp of current Royal Hunt Cup favourite, New Graduate when they clashed on heavy ground at Haydock last term. Time For A Toot was then beaten in two Listed contest over in France either side of a winter break, before returning to Britain to secure a decent sixth in an 18-runner Class Three handicap at Newbury.

Last time out at Nottingham, Time For A Toot was forced to sit prominently after peeling in from a wide stall. Although she faded a little late on, Hills’ four-year-old managed to hang on to claim fourth. The winner has failed to boost the form in higher quality races since then, but the runner-up ran well for second in a handicap during the Derby meeting and the third won on their following start, so fourth in that company was clearly a solid performance.

Staying the trip will be no problem and Time For A Toot has done her best work on testing ground. Kieran Shoemark has ridden a couple of winners since returning from his drugs ban and this Oasis Dream filly has the quality to cope with top-weight.
