Wednesday 18 September horse racing tips - Gosden runners can combine for 13/2 feature-race double at Yarmouth and Sandown

John Gosden can saddle a big race double on Wednesday in the feature races at Sandown and Yarmouth.

Brian Healy puts together a big-race double for Wednesday's feature races at Sandown and Yarmouth.

Featuring amidst Wednesday’s UK and Irish horse racing meetings is a pair of Listed contests, with one apiece coming from the cards at Sandown and Yarmouth respectively.

The first of them goes to post at 2.45pm at the latter-named seaside track where the EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies’ Stakes takes centre stage, and a big field of 16 runners could face the starter to compete for a first prize of £28,000 and the 1m 2f contest has a decent pedigree of past champions including Sheikha Reika, So Mi Dar, Hadaatha and Semayyel in recent years.

And 40 minutes later, Sandown is the scene for the Chasemore Farm Fortune Stakes which gets underway at 3.25pm where a select field of just 6 runners will line up with eyes on a first price in excess of £22,500 and compete over a trip of one mile.

Brian Healy takes a look at both feature contests on Wednesday, and he gives his selections for both contests which could return a X/x double.

FANNY LOGAN (11/10, Bet365) is going from strength to strength since being fitted with a hood, scoring wins in a pair of Listed contests already at York and Salisbury, and John Gosden’s charge can land a hat-trick.

The Sea The Stars filly is 3-3 over ten furlongs, also winning at Wetherby back in April; and while not disgraced in defeats over further in both the Cheshire Oaks and the Ribblesdale Stakes, she has returned to this trip to run out an impressive winner both times.

Equipped with a first-time hood at York in July she ran out a two lengths’ winner of the Listed Lyric Fillies’ Stakes from Glance, and she followed up that success by routing five other rivals by seven lengths in the recent Upavon Stakes at Salisbury.

She looked a potential Group horse on that occasion where despite the softer ground she ran out a convincing winner, and a return to this quicker ground could well prove to be even more to her liking.

Assuming the headgear continues to have a positive effect, then she can continue to show improvement and it wouldn’t come as a big surprise to see her firmly in the mix again for her in-form yard.

With the potential for better still then she can extend her unbeaten record over this ten furlongs trip to four wins from four starts, and she could prove a tough nut to crack here.

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori have made a habit of collecting valuable prizes this term, and the irresistible combination can combine again to land this Listed prize with TURGENEV (11/4, Ladbrokes) who has been in good form this term without managing to get his head in front.

The Dubawi colt was only run down late by Biometric at Royal Ascot in the Brittania Stakes, eventually finishing runner-up, and he may not have been fully at home on the track at Newmarket next time when running a shade flat in the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes next time.

That form looks decent however, with the winner of that race winning twice since which includes beating the selection in the recent Celebration Mile at Goodwood; while the runner-up has made the frame in two of his three subsequent starts in Group Three company.

He finished fourth in that Newmarket contest behind Duke Of Hazzard, and that rival went on to win the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes before the pair clashed again at Goodwood.

Paul Cole’s charge again had his measure, but the selection made sure the winner didn’t have everything his own way in first-time cheek-pieces and a repeat of that effort dropping back into Listed company could be good enough to see him register a first win of the campaign if the headgear has the same positive effect as when first worn.

While there are a couple of very interesting runners in opposition, he could be worth chancing to get off the mark for the season for a red-hot trainer/jockey combination.
