Wednesday’s racing tips – 5/2 shot to fight the tide at Haydock and claim maiden win

Haydock races.

Our expert takes a look through all of Wednesday’s cards and picks out an appealing novice running at Haydock as his best bet of the day with BetVictor on Wednesday 5th December.

There are two interesting point-to-point recruits in this maiden hurdle and it’s quite surprising to see which a disparity between Harry Hurricane and Leverock Lass in the betting, especially with Tim Reed’s mare gaining so much at the weights. While an each-way punt on Leverock Lass appeals, I’d prefer to back a horse with experience under rules in these races and the one who looks a solid bet is NEWTIDE.

Kim Bailey’s charge ran a nice race on his only start between the flags, failing to catch Onefortheroadtom, who’s reached a rating of 137 under Harry Fry’s tutelage over the past 12 months. David Bass employed the same hold-up tactics as Newtide made his stable debut at Chepstow and – despite not troubling the winners – Bailey will have been pleased to see his five-year-old make strong late progress to claim fourth.

Stepping up to three miles should suit this son of Getaway perfectly and the inevitable ease in ground conditions shouldn’t cause him any bother. We saw during the Betfair Chase meeting that hold-up horses can have an advantage on the long run for home at Haydock. I fancy Jonathan Burke will position Newtide to attack the leaders before the last and, together, they can claim a maiden victory.
