Feature Races At the 2025 Cheltenham Festival

There are four feature races at the Cheltenham Festival with one occurring at 3.30pm on each race day.

The Champion Hurdle – Tuesday 4pm

Tuesday’s main race is the Champion Hurdle and Nicky Henderson’s Constitution Hill is on the comeback trail. The two-mile championship race is shaping up into a fascinating clash between the favourite and impressive Irish mares Brighterdaysahead and Lossiemouth, as well as defending champion State Man.

The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase – Wednesday, 4pm

On Wednesday, we are set for another exciting duel between the best two-mile chasers in Britain and Ireland. The ever-consistent Jonbon will represent the home side, but Gaelic Warrior was an extremely impressive winner of the Arkle last season, while Energumene is a two-time Champion Chaser and remains a contender even at the age of 11.

The Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle – Thursday, 4pm

The 3m Stayers’ Hurdle has a dominant early favourite in the shape of Teahupoo. Gordon Elliott’s defending champion won with plenty to spare in 2024 and is likely to save his best for the meeting after a layoff.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup – Friday, 4pm

The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the highlight of the meeting and the ultimate prize in steeplechasing. All eyes will be on Galopin Des Champs, as he seeks a place in the history books and a third successive win in the race. His stablemate Fact To File looks the pick of the younger challengers.

Cheltenham Betting Tips – How To Read The Odds

If the 2025 Cheltenham Festival will be the first time you place a bet, reading the odds for our Cheltenham tips could not be simpler.

For example, if want to place a bet on a horse with odds of 2/1, this means you will double your money if it wins, plus get your original stake back. The first number acts as a multiplier, so the bigger that number, the more you will make by winning at those odds. However, the bookmakers will always have various reasons to make a horse a bigger price, and so a 20/1 shot will always be much less likely to win than a 2/1 shot.

Similarly, some prices will not end in a 1. For instance, if you place a £1 bet on a horse at 5/2, you multiply by the 5, but then divide by the 2, giving you a £2.50 profit for you original stake.

Favourites’ Success Rate at the Cheltenham Festival

In National Hunt racing, a favourite wins roughly one out of every three races, giving a success rate of 33.3%. At the Cheltenham Festival, using the percentages from the table above, their success rate is slightly lower at 25.3%. Or in other words, just over one in every four favourites wins at the Cheltenham Festival.

This is mainly due to it being the most competitive meeting of the year, with bigger fields and more testing handicaps ensuring that there is plentiful opposition to the market leaders. The undulating nature of the track is not to every horse’s liking either, adding that further layer of unpredictability.
