Four-time winner but no success since landing the 2020 Meld Stakes; not disgraced in Listed and Group company this year but below his best and his rating has dropped to the extent that he is now running in a handicap; thrown in here on his best form but that is becoming a more distant memory.

C&D winner last year; has been consistent in big handicaps this season, going closest when a close second in a 1m2f premier handicap at Leopardstown early this month; highest draw but not necessarily a bad one for a hold-up horse; stable mob-handed in this race and looks to have a leading chance.

For his exploits in big field handicaps over the last couple of years, it is his debut in this race; application of a tongue-tie and cheekpieces did him no harm when he got up late to land a premier handicap at the Curragh last month; can be slowly away and normally comes from off the pace, so not drawn badly; could be thereabouts.

Won over 1m at Limerick on seasonal debut last year; two subsequent wins were over further, signing off with a 1m2f Naas success on heavy ground; 11lb rise appears quite harsh but further progress is not out of the question.

Verdict

Ado McGuinness is mob-handed here as he tries to win the race for the fourth straight year, but the draw has not been kind to Casanova, Spanish Tenor, Current Option, and to a lesser extent last year's winner Sirjack Thomas, while dual winner Saltonstall will need plenty of luck from his inside draw. Fastnet Crown is making his debut in this race and will be on plenty of shortlists. as will the relatively unexposed Cowboy Justice after his Killarney win. The selection is MOSALA, a staying third in this race last year and coming into the race on the back of a very encouraging Leopardstown run. [Justin O'Hanlon]
