Form & Verdict
Ran a useful first race to finish third at Pontefract (6f, good) but he has the weakest form credentials of these and rarely does a maiden win this race.

Form & Verdict
Made all and just held on from Mysterious Night at Newbury in May; highly tried in the meantime over 7f, finishing fifth to Holloway Boy in the Chesham and then third of five runners in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket; ideally drawn to continue with the positive tactics but evidently vulnerable to something with a bit more zip.

Form & Verdict
This is a big step up from winning a Beverley novice over slightly further but that was never in doubt even with a penalty and his Group 1 entry in the National Stakes would suggest his top yard think a good bit of him; respected.

Form & Verdict
Under Cieren Fallon he's run out a clearcut winner of 7f good-ground novices at Haydock and Ayr, looking a smart prospect in the process; like his stablemate Dear My Friend, he has yet to be truly tested and he holds the Group 1 National Stakes entry; hard to dismiss.

Form & Verdict
Half-brother to five winners; 16-1 when fifth in a good race here on his debut (won by the Coventry third) and then readily repelled an impressive subsequent winner on return visit (6f, good to firm); entered in the Gimcrack (6f) and also the Group 1 National Stakes over this distance; interesting.

Form & Verdict
A rare feat to win at Royal Ascot first time out (the first since 1996), having come with a sweeping run from last to first in the 7f Chesham (Listed; good to firm); it didn't look the strongest of renewals and two of the next three home have disappointed subsequently, but no doubt there's more to come from him.

Form & Verdict
Third in a hot Brocklesby on his debut in March and had the subsequent Coventry sixth (dual winner) back in third when winning at Leicester (again 5f on good to soft); clearly talented but has been absent since early April and he's up 2f in distance.

Jiffy Boy

Improved from his promising debut third in the Brocklesby when making just about all at Leicester (5f, good to soft) six days later, but found the step up to Group 2 level after nearly four months off too much at Goodwood (7f, good) last time; this trip may be more suitable on breeding, but he still has plenty to find at this level.

Form & Verdict
Since finishing behind both Dark Thirty and Mysterious Night on their respective debuts at Newbury he has progressed well to win his next two, impressing at Nottingham and workmanlike in defying a penalty on the step up to 7f at Salisbury (good to firm); going the right way but perhaps placed at best.

Form & Verdict
After pushing Dark Thirty close on his debut he comfortably went one better on his return to Newbury; had his limitations exposed (over 6f at any rate) when third in the Group 2 July Stakes but he was boxing on at Newmarket and stepping up to 7f should bring him on some more; tempting.

Betting Forcast

66/1 Dandy Man Shines, 10/1 Dark Thirty, 6/1 Dear My Friend, 7/1 Dornoch Castle, 7/1 Galeron, 15/8 Holloway Boy, 50/1 Jiffy Boy, 10/1 Marbaan, 4/1 Mysterious Night

Verdict

Although Holloway Boy deserves high praise for becoming the first debutant to win at Royal Ascot since 1996, it didn't smack of a strong Chesham at the time and the form is already looking shaky. Preference is for MYSTERIOUS NIGHT who couldn't lay a glove on the principals in the recent Group 2 July Stakes but could prove a very different proposition over this longer trip. Galeron has gained valuable course experience (on the straight track) and he is also of interest.[Alistair Jones]
