Tenth foal; brother to 1m winner Dandy Maestro (RPR 88) and half-brother to five further Flat winners including Illustrating (Group-placed 5f 2yo; 99); dam a top-class 7f-1m winner; with the stable housing a number of high-class 2yos, any confidence behind him would be significant.

6f winner on fast turf last summer; four runs this year, running poorly on three of them (bled from the nose once and twice well beaten on soft) but beaten just half a length at Wolverhampton in May (7f; 4lb lower today); not one for the faint of heart but can't discount if the cheekpieces have the desired effect.

He's dropped a long way in the weights and there were a few more promising signs when fifth of 11 at Wolverhampton last week (pulled hard over 7f in first-time blinkers); return to 6f not sure to suit.

Form & Verdict
45,000gns yearling related to several winners; raced prominently before weakening into sixth at Salisbury, ultimately beaten 5l by Marbaan who runs in the Group 2 earlier; was a weak 25-1 chance that day when partnered by a 7lb claimer and now Tom Marquand takes over; better expected.

Won his novice here over 6f on good to soft; has returned this season in good heart with excellent efforts at Newmarket (6f, good; 7f; soft), and the form of his win there is already looking very solid; has a 6lb rise to deal with but very much going the right way.

6f winner as a 2yo and ran well over same trip in Class 2 handicap at the Craven meeting here (good) on reappearance; looks ready for another crack at 7f and commands respect back down in grade.

Built upon the promise of his first three runs (on good/good to firm) when readily winning a Goodwood maiden (6f, good to soft) at 4-9 last October; fair fourth of eight on nursery debut at Newbury (6f, heavy) 13 days later and he may have more to offer this year; not discounted.

Verdict

Atomic Impact is an interesting newcomer but he'll need to be pretty smart to beat some experienced rivals who have already hinted that they might be above average. Mischief Magic, Celtic Champion and Supreme King are greatly feared in that order of preference but a chance is taken on CHARTWELL HOUSE, who all things considered ran a mighty race to even threaten a good horse at Windsor two weeks ago.[Alistair Jones]
