Form & Verdict
Winner over this trip at Chepstow (good to soft) last April when 5lb higher but he hasn't shone on his last two starts over hurdles and fences and has questions to answer now.

Jumped well out in front when prevailing narrowly over fences at Ffos Las (2m3f; good to soft) in April but ran a modest race there in May; dual hurdle winner who stays this far but he's become hard to predict.

Returned to form when jumping well out in front and holding on by a length over C&D last month; beat one chasing a hat-trick so it's solid form; just 3lb higher.

Now 9b lower than for his Chepstow win (2m7f, good to soft) last April but he's been pulled up here (2m5f) and at Plumpton (3m1f) in last two runs; cheekpieces return on this drop back in grade but he needs a major revival back in trip; stablemate of Lelant.

Form & Verdict
Hard to call him well handicapped (C&D win in November was off 6lb lower) but it was another solid effort in defeat at Fontwell 16 days ago; unlikely to be far away.

Bettered poor seasonal debut when third over C&D (good to soft; 8l behind Anytrixwilldo) in refitted blinkers in January, but he ought to have been suited by the heavy ground when pulled up at Ffos Las on Friday and has become far too unreliable.

Has become well handicapped and finally completed again when a 12l third at Ludlow (3m, good to soft); could build on that with yard having winners again.

No better for the 279-day break when registering yet another pulling up last month, despite having his preferred 3m on slow ground; 9lb below his one British winning mark now but hard to warm to; blinkers return.

Form & Verdict
Will like the soft ground and one of his two hurdle wins came over 3m1f so he stays well; however, he has still to convince over fences (0-3; blinkered the last twice) and hard to be confident.

Seemingly boosted by changed of headgear when winning twice over hurdles last year (3m2f/3m1f, good to soft) but his two runs this year (chase/hurdle) have been below par and he needs to bounce back again.

Form & Verdict
A combination of new cheekpieces and the return to a staying distance triggered a return to winning ways in workmanlike fashion at Huntingdon off a 5lb lower mark; there are some doubts about her replicating that form but clearly a contender if she does.

Suffered early mishap three starts ago but placed on other four outings this season, most recently when second ay Exeter (3m, good) three weeks ago; ran poorly on only previous visit to Fakenham and would appeal more on ground slower than good but still features prominently in calculations.

Suffered early mishap on penultimate outing but placed on other three starts this season, most recently when clear second to dual subsequent winner at Leicester (2m6f, heavy) last month; might not be ideally suited by the much quicker ground here but still commands respect.

Form & Verdict
Looked in a bit of bother before staying on best and collecting by 8l over the extended 2m3f here 16 days ago (heavy); has to deal with a 6lb rise in a higher-grade race this time but he's unexposed as a stayer and gives the impression that a return to this distance should suit.

Produced a remarkable late surge to snatch what had looked an unlikely victory at Fontwell (2m5f, good to soft; blinkers removed) last month but this inconsistent 9yo tends to race lazily nowadays and got going too late when back at Fontwell a fortnight ago; other are much less risky.

12/1

Verdict

If the cheekpieces work for a second time then FORTUNEFAVORSDBOLD might well follow up her Huntingdon victory. Valirann Gold stayed on best over a shorter trip here last time and it would be surprising should his stamina not last out over this far. Haut Folin should also be on the scene.[Alistair Jones]
