Flat racing has dominated the return of horseracing in France this week but Saturday sees the jumpers take centre stage at Auteuil.

We’ve been in fantastic form with our French Racing tips and our experts have looked at all the videos, studied the runners and came up with their best value bets.

CARRIACOU (1.35 Auteuil, 2m6f Grade 2 chase)

The best race on the card is undoubtedly the Grade 2 Prix Murat Chase, which features a host of Grade 1 winners.

Five-year-old Figuero will probably go off favourite after winning five of his last six starts, including two Grade 1 chases last year. Those wins came against fellow four-year-olds but he did win a Listed Hurdle impressively on his comeback run in March just before the lockdown.

We’ll take him on though, with last year’s Grand Steeple-chase de Paris winner Carriacou. He was ridden by Davy Russell to that success last May and has been ridden by the Irishman in his last four starts, but Russell is obviously unable to ride him due to travel restrictions on Saturday.#

Carriacou made a pleasing return just before lockdown when fifth over a trip far too short for him but he seemingly travelled the best before blowing up late on.

The one worry is that he is probably building up to a repeat tilt at the Grand Steeplechase de Paris, which is due to be run in three weeks but the same can be said of some of the contenders.

LUDELLA (12.35 Auteuil, 2m2f Listed H’cap Hurdle)

This hold-up horse is a monster price but we feel there is more ability under the bonnet than has been shown in recent efforts.

She pulled way too hard to get involved at the business end in a slowly run race at Fontainebleu on her penultimate start before falling on her last start in a decent race at Compiegne last time.

It was notable that there was money around for her before that run and she was travelling conspicuously better than in her previous races and was beginning to make some headway when coming down a long way from home.

Has it to do at this level but may just outrun her massive odds.

ECHO DE CHAMPDOUX (2.15 Auteuil, 2m Grade 3 H’cap Hurdle)

An open race and it could again be worth chancing one at a decent each-way price. Echo De Champdoux finished third in a race at Auteuil in a chase at this course in October and probably found the going too soft when disappointing in a Listed Chase in October.

Wore blinkers for the first time and was noted making good late ground over a trip slightly short of this on his comeback run last time despite pulling hard and racing wide and better can perhaps be expected here.

PHILANTHROPE (2.45 Auteuil, 2m2f ListedHurdle)

Not raced for 169 days but that can be viewed as a positive as she often goes well fresh, winning on her debut back in 2018 and also reaching the winner’s enclosure on her first run after a 354-day break in September last year.

Has been placed at this level in the past so we know she goes well in this ground and it will not be as heavy as when she disappointed, which will be a bonus this time around.

Should be well fancied and can go close
