Nicky Henderson’s Saturday Ascot Runners Assessed

Jumps racing is back at Ascot on Saturday as the track hosts a competitive card. One trainer who has enjoyed particular success at this meeting in recent years has been Nicky Henderson. As well as operating at a 20% strike rate at Ascot in recent seasons, Henderson has unleashed the likes of Altior and My Tent Or Yours on this card. Here at Racing Tips, we have assessed the chances of his Saturday runners below.

PROGRESSIVE – (2:10pm Ascot, Bateaux London Handicap Hurdle)

Nicky Henderson’s first runner on the Saturday Ascot card comes in the 2m Listed handicap hurdle.

PROGRESSIVE gained her second win in this sphere when going in at Chepstow earlier this month, showing a good attitude to score by just under a length. She didn’t do a great deal once hitting the front that day, so looks value for further than the bare winning margin and therefore a 6lb rise is unlikely to prove insurmountable.

MENGLI KHAN – (2:45pm Ascot, Byrne Group Handicap Chase)

MENGLI KHAN was a high-class hurdler/chaser for Gordon Elliott in his pomp, winning the Grade 1 Royal Bond back in 2017. He ran well in defeat in a couple of Jumpers’ Bumpers at the start of this year for these connections, and although disappointing in the County Hurdle when last seen, he is running off a 2lb lower mark back over fences on seasonal reappearance.

GO CHIQUE – (4:30pm Ascot, Ascot Racecourse Supports Safer Gambling Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle)

GO CHIQUE put up a career-best performance when scoring at Southwell when last seen in April. She reappears on a 6lb higher mark here and is dropped back markedly in trip, but with this just her seventh career start she remains open to improvement.
