The first race at Sandown on Saturday (13:15) is the Paddy Power Juvenile Handicap Hurdle. A 0-125 handicap for 4yo horses, this event has had a good spread of winners in recent years, with odds-on favourite Hudson De Grugy landing the odds in 2021, but the previous year seeing a shock courtesy of 20/1 shot Le Milos.

Milton Harris is currently enjoying a terrific season and he sends out the market leader here in Hasty Parisian, this son of Champs Elysees has recorded steadily progressive RPRs in his four starts to date, finishing third in a maiden hurdle at Doncaster last time. On his start prior to that, Hasty Parisian had chased home Saint Segal, a live contender for the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham on Tuesday.

Gary Moore has taken two of the last three renewals of this event and he sends out Langafel here. Although he cut little ice in four flat starts, this gelding has won both starts since sent hurdling, backing up a Newton Abbot maiden success when going in at Market Rasen in August. Off the track since, Langafel warrants respect if fully tuned up here for his comeback.

Whilst the horses mentioned warrant respect, it is MALAKAHNA that gets the verdict here. Ian Williams’ filly accounted for the classy Aliomaana on hurdles debut at Fakenham in October, and she has held her form in defeat since, finishing fourth in Listed company at Musselburgh last time. This represents a significant drop in class from that assignment, whilst her course knowledge and hurdling experience should come in handy.
